Welcome to this week's issue of The Birthday Workbook!
This week, we read a collaborative piece by five children, Dimi, Amirah, Fhariz, Sharmaine and Priyanka. They reflect on their interview with Mr Nurrul Salam, who works at the prata shop in Jalan Kukoh Food Centre.

First, here's a taster video on what it is like to be a worker at a hawker stall:

Now consider the following questions:
- What does this piece teach us about work as a prata shop "uncle" and in the hawker industry?
- How do Dimi and Fhariz define "hard work"? How are these definitions similar to or different from your own?
- What is the relationship between "school" and "learning" in this piece?
- Amirah recounts that certain people cannot be found on the internet because "they are not as famous as an actress or artist". How does this piece recognise people who are not "famous"?
- The authors live in Jalan Kukoh, one of Singapore's poorest neighborhoods. Jacqueline Wilson, a popular UK novelist, also writes from her experiences growing up in council housing (similar to rental flats). In what ways might our physical and social environments shape our writing?
- Lastly, find out more about the people who tend the food stalls you frequent (in a safe manner) -- take a selfie or even write a short interview and let us know how it goes!
