Black Lives Matter

Last week, MEAM published a statement on racism and multiple disadvantage, setting out our position and the actions we will take. You can read it in full here.

Ask the Network series 

MEAM is producing a series of recordings and blogs focused on multiple disadvantage and COVID-19.

Substance misuse learning hub

We are holding an online learning hub on the afternoon of July 16th, focused on substance misuse and multiple disadvantage. Speakers will discuss government policies and best practice for people facing multiple disadvantage. MEAM Approach and Fulfilling Lives areas can sign up here.
Latest policy news - COVID-19

Additional £85 million for homelessness

The government has announced a further £85 million of spending on interim accommodation for the 15,000 people who have been housed during the COVID-19 crisis. Read our statement in response to this here.

Government responds to HCLG committee report

The government has responded to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee's report on protecting rough sleepers and renters.

Lockdown restrictions 

Changes have been announced to England's lockdown regime from 4th July.

Local authority finances

Some local authorities have issued warnings that they may need to issue S114 notices because of the impact of COVID-19 on income and expenditure. The MHCLG is carrying out data collection to gather information on the impact COVID-19 is having on council finances.

Major overhaul of family courts announced

The government has announced a number of reforms to family court procedures to reduce the impact of court proceedings on victims of domestic abuse and children.

Civil enforcement restrictions 

The government has announced that civil enforcement restrictions are to continue to August 24th. However, energy companies can begin to chase unpaid bills from this week.

Clinks have published a letter sent to Dr. Jo Farrar, chief executive of HMPPS, asking fo action to address the challenges of BAME-led organisations in the criminal justice system.

Homeless Link updates

Homeless Link has published two blogs - one reflects on lessons from America about Critical Time Interventions; and the other looks at severe hot weather, its impact on the most vulnerable, and what you can do.

News from Mind 

Mind is campaigning to ensure the flexibility of offering phone or paper-based benefits assessments instead of face-to-face remains after the COVID-19 crisis.  

Collective Voice 

Collective Voice has relaunched the Slack Community 'Making a Difference Together' for colleagues interested in closer collaboration for people experiencing drug and alcohol problems.

ESRC review on social isolation for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups

The ESRC has published an evidence review to consider the impacts of social isolation on disadvantaged, marginalised, and vulnerable populations in the context of pandemics and other public health crises.
Learning Opportunities

Clinks Annual Conference

Clinks will hold its annual conference 'Making all the difference' on June 29th.  

COVID-19 and domestic abuse webinar

The National Lottery Community Fund will look at the impact the lockdown has had on victims of domestic abuse and the services that support them. It will take place on July 1st at 9.15am

Homeless Link conference and webinars

On 8 & 9 July Homeless Link will be holding an online Rough Sleeping Conference. Additionally there is a training session on reflective practice and resilience for front line staff on June 30th at 10am.
