1.  SeaWorld's interim CEO seeks to put guests' minds at ease

Like other theme park operators around the country, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment closed its attractions in mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis.   Now that some of those theme parks have been reopened for several weeks, interim CEO Marc Swanson’s message for guests is that it is safe to return -- and, he said, “equally important, you can still have a good time.”

2.  Disneyland reopening postponed

Disney is postponing the reopening of its theme parks in Anaheim, Calif., until governmental approvals are in place.  Two weeks ago, the company announced plans to reopen Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on July 17, implementing health safety protocols to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

3.  Kings Dominion releases statement on Phase 3 of reopening

Kings Dominion is disappointed to hear as part of the Phase 3 announcement that the restrictions applied to smaller indoor attractions and venues are being improperly applied to large amusement parks, such as Kings Dominion.  Although we respect the decisions of our state officials, the restriction of limiting our park to just 1,000 guests does not reflect the large volume of space available to accommodate recommended social distancing protocols, and essentially suggests the state will only allow us to have 5 people per operating acre. 

4.  Six Flags Discovery Kingdom sets reopening — but there’s a catch

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom on Thursday announced plans to reopen next month — but with severe limitations.  The Vallejo theme park, which suspended operations on March 13 to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, will welcome guests again on July 2 for a limited-time, animals-only experience.

6.  Awaiting state approval, Seabreeze amusement park preparing for green light to reopen

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WROC) — New York state’s updated phase four reopening guidelines indicate that amusement parks will not reopen under phase four as previously expected, until further notice.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Riding a roller coaster won’t be the same this summer, but it will still be fun. At least area amusement park executives hope so.

8.  Indiana Beach is back! Amusement park plans to reopen Saturday

The 94-year-old amusement park, located on the shores of Lake Shafer in Monticello, is preparing to reopen Friday for a VIP party and to the general public Saturday after several months of being closed, acquiring a new owner and operating with new guidelines under the coronavirus pandemic.

9.  Funplex in Mount Laurel to reopen July 2 for patrons with reservations

The township’s Funplex amusement park, which caters to families with a water park, indoor arcade, go-kart track and more, is reopening as part of the state’s phase two plan for restarting the economy.

10.  Water slides, dinosaurs and 26 rides: Inside £37 million Gulliver’s Valley theme park

Set in 250 acres of countryside a stones throw from the popular Rother Valley Country Park, just over the border from Sheffield, Gulliver’s Valley boasts 50 attractions for a brilliant family day out or a memorable holiday for those staying longer.

11.  New Adventureland roller coaster set to slay 'The Dragon' in 2021

ALTOONA, Iowa — A hero is stepping up in Adventureland's roller coaster scene next year.  A Facebook post from the Altoona theme park depicts what the "Dragon Slayer" roller coaster experience will be like in 2021. 

12.  Leisure Island Fun Park, Canvey, set to close for good

UK - A popular amusement park will not re-open and will close for good, owners have announced.  The team from Leisure Island Fun Park, on Eastern Esplanade, Canvey, issued a statement last night announcing the news, thanking families and guests for their support over the years.

13.  Six Flags Hires Finance Chief as Parks Company Looks to Emerge From Pandemic

Six Flags Entertainment Corp. said it has hired a permanent finance chief, a move that comes as the theme-park operator works to draw customers back to its attractions following coronavirus-related closures earlier this year.

14.  Six Flags Over Georgia apologizes after family questioned about Black Lives Matter shirts

ATLANTA — A mother said Six Flags Over Georgia tried to stop her family from going into the park because they were wearing Black Lives Matter T-shirts.
 

15.  Jenkinson's Rides And Other Amusements To Reopen

"We will be opening at 50 percent capacity on Thursday, July 2nd!" the park said on Facebook. "In the next few days we'll be receiving guidelines from the state and as soon as we do we will pass them along. We want to thank you once again for your patience during this time and we can't wait to see you on the rides once again!"

16.  Legoland Windsor's new rules and safety measures in place when it reopens in July

The Berkshire resort just west of London has introduced rules aimed at keeping its guests safe, including limited tickets available for each day which must be pre-booked.

17.  Stay overnight this summer in Toverland: theme park opens camping

This summer it is possible to stay overnight in Toverland. A temporary campsite will be built in the amusement park in July and August. Visitors can bring their own camper, caravan or tent, or rent a furnished tent. A stay at the campsite includes unlimited access to Toverland.

18.  Morey’s Piers now hiring for the 2020 season

As New Jersey begins to reopen and tourists return to this premier Jersey Shore destination, Morey’s Piers is ramping up its seasonal hiring in an effort to provide guests with the level of service they have come to expect when visiting Morey's.

19.  Bobbejaanland: these attractions remain closed during corona times

If Bobbejaanland opens again next week, not all attractions will be available. Due to the corona crisis, the Flemish amusement park chooses to close or adjust a handful of attractions. That says general director Yves Peeters in an interview.

1.  Chuck E. Cheese parent files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company CEC Entertainment said Thursday it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after venue closures stemming from the coronavirus pandemic roiled its business.

2.  Museums' treasures endure, but how we see them may change

At 9:00 sharp on a recent June morning, Peter Campbell stood at the entrance to Naples’ famed National Archaeology Museum. Although the museum had been officially reopened for several weeks since Italy lifted its lockdown, and in normal times can host thousands of visitors a day, the minutes ticked by as the grand, salmon-colored building remained shut. A couple arrived. After 15 minutes, the doors swung open to reveal a guard visibly surprised to see three waiting guests.
 

3.  Children's Museum of Indianapolis opened to donors Wednesday. Here's what changed.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis welcomed donors Wednesday, beginning a slow process of reopening to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Museum mascot Rex and the dinosaurs out front wore masks over their snouts. Children walked around in tiny, colorful mask of their own, and their parents used museum-provided wipes to disinfect everything they touched.

4.  Philadelphia Museum of Art plans to shed at least 100 employees — more than 20% of its staff

The Philadelphia Museum of Art, closed since March and with a budget decimated by the pandemic-induced shutdown, is moving to cut more than 100 jobs from its staff through furloughs, voluntary departures, and possibly layoffs.

5.  Corning Museum of Glass outlines safety precautions ahead of reopening

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) – The Corning Museum of Glass has released health and safety precautions being implemented as the museum prepares to reopen in New York State's Phase Four.

6.  Hands On Children’s Museum readies an array of family programs to start in July

The Hands On Children’s Museum, closed since March, is once again abuzz with activity.  Summer camps begin July 6, and the museum staff expects to welcome members back to play and learn on weekends beginning July 11, with public and weekday hours planned by August.
 
Waterpark / Aquatics News

1.  Las Vegas’ Wet’n’Wild park reopens to massive crowds (VIDEO)

The venue reopened to visitors on Monday, much to the delight of residents looking to cool off as temperatures in Nevada continue to increase. However, videos posted to social media illustrate the lineups of people waiting to get in, all without physical distancing or the appropriate usage of facial coverings.

2.  BC’s biggest waterpark finally opens for the summer in 2 short weeks

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the popular waterpark, which is the biggest in British Columbia, has not been able to open up the gates yet.  That will soon change, as Cultus Lake Waterpark is set to open to the public on Wednesday, July 8.

3.  Playa Maya Waterpark just reopened for the summer

As the heat starts cranking across Shanghai's streets and pool season gets steadily underway, here's a bit of good news to come out of Sheshan: Playa Maya Waterpark has just reopened for the summer. The announcement of the park's opening came off the back of the news that popular Shanghai waterpark Dino Beach won't open this season.

4.  Maui Jack’s Waterpark to open July 1

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WAVY) — Maui Jack’s Waterpark announced it is reopening to the public on July 1.  The park said there will be changes in place as the top priority is the health and safety of guests and employees.

5.  Island Waterpark cancels 2020 operating season due to coronavirus concerns

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — You won't be able to cool off at the Island Waterpark this summer.  That's because the business has decided to cancel its 2020 operating season because of the coronavirus outbreak.

6.  Hawaiian Falls to open new attraction on Thursday

WACO — Hawaiian Falls Waco will open a new attraction on Thursday, June 25 with city officials and Hawaiian Falls executives on hand to introduce Kona Bay to guests.
 
Aquarium / Zoo News

1.  Colchester Zoo: 'Passholders who don't show will get ban'

Colchester Zoo's boss has warned passholders who book tickets and don't show could be given a one month visiting ban.  When the zoo reopened last week it introduced booking and staggered arrivals to cope with social distancing requirements.

2.  Future funding for Minnesota Zoo remains uncertain

Drive-thru event to raise money for cash-strapped zoo  The Minnesota Zoo premiered a drive-thru event this week to help raise money for the cash-strapped Apple Valley attraction that closed in March because of COVID-19.

3.  N.C. Zoo reopens after ‘challenging’ 3-month shutdown

On March 17, the zoo temporarily suspended its operations following Gov. Roy Cooper’s Executive Order 117, which prohibited mass gatherings in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic. And after a nearly three-month hiatus, the zoo opened its doors to guests on June 15, with just five official days of spring — the zoo’s busiest season — left on the calendar.
 

4.  Aquarium of Niagara and the Buffalo Zoo preparing to reopen

NIAGARA FALLS & BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) — The Western New York region is expected to move into Phase Four of the NY Forward reopening plan next week. That means local attractions like the Aquarium of Niagara and The Buffalo Zoo can once again have visitors.
 

5.  Oklahoma Aquarium to host 4th of July event

On July 4, at 6:30 p.m., guests can ride a mechanical bull shark, feed turtles and stingrays, take part in an aquatic virtual reality experience, and marvel at more than 10,000 aquatic creatures on exhibit.

6.  Dinosaurs trampling their way to Cleveland Zoo

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is headed back to the Jurassic era.  Starting on July 1, Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors will kick off at the zoo.

8.  Chester Zoo issues update to 'frustrated' members who are struggling to book visits

Chester Zoo have issued a message to members who have been struggling to book slots to visit the attraction.  A number of visitors have been left frustrated that they've not been able to access tickets to the zoo, who have been operating on reduced numbers since reopening to the public almost two weeks ago.

9.  #FindingTheGood: Both the Lincoln Park & The Brookfield Zoo Set To Re-Open Soon!

Lincoln Park Zoo will re-open Monday with limited capacity, while the Brookfield Zoo plans to re-open to members only on July 1st, with the general public after the July 4th holiday.

10.  Retailer backs campaign to save zoo

The Welsh Mountain Zoo – the National Zoo of Wales – in Colwyn Bay is facing the biggest crisis in its 57-year history, with gates closed since March 22 due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.
Tourism / Other News

1.  AAA Predicts Around 700 Million Trips This Summer

According to the 2020 AAA Summer Travel Forecast, Americans are once again making travel plans, but most are being cautious, which has resulted in a 15-percent decline in journeys as compared to last July through September.

2.  Disney Cruise Line Introduces New Cruise Date Flexibility

The new policy states that “for any cruises booked by August 31, 2020, for sailings through March 31, 2021, [guests] can rest assured knowing they can change their sail date up to 15 days prior to departure.”
