Special News: Outreach Efforts Update & Community Survey

Outreach Efforts Update

From the Staff

At Arts Access, we know that the pervasiveness of racism and ableism means that people of color with disabilities -- specifically Black children and adults with disabilities -- face compounded discrimination and exclusion in our communities. This includes the arts.

Everyone should have access to the arts. We believe that the arts are important and make our lives better. At Arts Access, we remain committed to working to make the arts fully inclusive to all people and believe the arts are a place people can come together, find belonging and create change.

This past year, the board and staff of Arts Access committed to outreach goals that include working to connect with individuals and organizations who may not know about accessible arts or who face multiple barriers to participation.

Connections start with building relationships. If you are a part of any community-based organization or group (nonprofit, school, church, child-care facility, etc), we want to support you. Please take our short survey to let us know how Arts Access can support your organization with accessibility and how we can support the individuals with disabilities you serve in finding and accessing the arts .

"We recognize that Black people with disabilities often face a double measure of implicit bias, racism, and discrimination, as well as barriers to access."   Read the Full Statement Here

"In 2019 Arts Access our board outreach committee started an initiative to help nurture the needs of the communities that have not been reached within our scope of arts advocacy. We discovered that while we were providing amazing services to many, there were still persons and organizations that had no idea who we were and how we could assist, those communities were mainly communities of color."  Read the Full Statement Here
