Stories of HOPE

Natalie and her three children were living in a shared household with a family member when the house went into foreclosure. Soon after, Natalie and her kids carried their trash bags of clothing into an apartment at Sarah's House to start over again.

The Catholic Charities shelter has a multi-faceted approach to serving women. Natalie was able to be placed in their 12-month supportive housing program, which offered not only housing and meals, but child care, skills classes, employment services, transportation, and more. She was required to put aside 30% of her income, allowing her to save up for her costs to move out.

HOPE For All was designed to support, not compete, with existing charitable services for county residents, and fill in the gap by providing comprehensive services that no other nonprofit does. Natalie was fortunate to be able to get a car through Vehicles for Change. Our partnership with Sarah's House enabled us to visit her with a Basket of HOPE in her new place and complete a wish list of whatever she needed to help turn her house into a home.

We were thrilled to learn that Natalie has found a better job than the one she previously had, and while she had received some gifts of furniture from others to get her started, HOPE was able to fill in the rest.

She had a specific request for us: Natalie asked the HOPE For All family for prayers of strength, since this is her first time out on her own. May God Bless Natalie and her children as they embark on this journey together.

Many people aspire to make a difference in their community. Here in Anne Arundel County, we know of a distinctive group of women who are doing just that.

Anne Arundel Women Giving Together is improving the lives of women and families in our county through collective giving. Since 2006, they have raised and invested more than $1.2 million for local nonprofit organizations, and HOPE For All has been a grateful recipient of their generosity. This year, the group awarded HOPE nearly $20,000 for operational support of our programs.

AAWGT members research the issues facing area residents, and they have visited HOPE on multiple occasions to witness our operation in action.

“They’ve taken the time to understand us, and they’re a major contributor to what we’re doing,” said Executive Director Connie Cooper.

In addition to funding nonprofits, AAWGT offers regular education sessions, and inspires their members to become active leaders in the community.

“They are an awesome group of women,” added Connie. “We are eternally grateful for their overwhelming support of our mission. They have touched many families through their generosity.”

Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church invited HOPE to set up our van on their property for a collection day in June. We gratefully received furniture, linens, and household items that we can use to give back out to people in the community who need them. Woods is a great partner in so many ways. Thank you, Woods!
Thanks to Amy Rychwalski Salmon of Salmon Insurance Group for her donation of dozens of pillows in response to our call for help in replenishing our inventory in June. Amy is a regular supporter of HOPE and we are grateful for her responsive action!
We officially welcomed our volunteers back in mid-June, with many of our regulars able to return. It was wonderful to see familiar faces again!

We continue to follow COVID-19 guidelines, with recommended social distancing, gloves, masks, and shortened shifts.

Our volunteers are the heart of HOPE For All, and we thank God for their faithful commitment to our nonprofit.. We look forward to seeing more of our dear friends in the future.
During the pandemic, HOPE For All was blessed to receive a grant from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County to help us fund the increased expense of diapers and wipes for clients. HOPE is one of 54 nonprofits to benefit from their Community Crisis Response Fund, and this support enabled HOPE to fully respond to the needs of county residents. Thank you, CFAAC, for your partnership!

The words in this poem were written by a young man before his death who had many health challenges. He captures the meaning of what hope is and why we are so passionate in sharing hope.
HOPE

Hope is life
Hope is the light at the end of the tunnel
Hope is putting the past behind
For a new future
Hope is life

Hope is chance
Hope is getting a second chance
Hope is getting inspiration
When you have none
Hope is chance

Hope is faith
Hope is another day
Hope is to believe in God
When there is nothing else to believe in
Hope is faith

Hope triumphs over sorrows
Hope is always there tomorrow
Hope conquers everything
and hope never dies

Hope is golden
All you need is hope

John Maicher

Dear God,

These times are so unprecedented for so many of us and yet there are issues that have been underlying and festering for too many years. We know the only resolution is to turn to You and ask that You shine Your Light for all to see and remove the denial, rejection, inequality, pride, wealth, passions, alcohol, drugs, and political unrest. Your law states, and as hard as it may sound, to love one another as we love ourselves. Your love for Your people is unquestionable but so many doubt. Help us to turn our weapons into plow shares and to be witnesses to You as harvesters in the field.

BLESSINGS, PEACE, JOY, HOPE, AND UNITY FOR ALL!

In Jesus's name we pray!!!

AMEN
