Over/Under Newsletter - June 2020

What's New at NBO

One result of the pandemic is that the creative minds at NBO have come up with new opportunities for you. We’ve begun Getting Close as a way to promote basketry using close-up images submitted by our members. Keep reading for more information, but remember the deadline for submissions is July 31st.

In July we will be introducing a new program called NBO Presents. Please join us for the first event in a series of interviews, lectures, get-togethers and other programming open to all NBO members and the greater arts community. Details follow.

The Teachers Zoom meetings continue to be successful and are valued by the participants. Those in joining the meetings share ideas of how to teach online, what works and doesn’t work along with suggestions of working during these times. Everyone is welcome and those joining think it’s time well spent. There will be another meeting in early July and we'd love to have you. Email me for meeting information.

I asked our Group and Guild Committee to share with you what some of them are doing these days. Read below to find out how the Bay Area Basket Makers have been gathering during this time.

Check out our new Member Ads program below. There will be a maximum of three ads per Over/Under. An ad is $40, maximum 15 words including links and one image. The Over/Under has a reader subscription over 2000 with over 1,000 opened each month. Interested?  Contact us!

Thank you for taking the time to read NBO’s Over/Under. We value you, every member, supporter and reader of the Over/Under. I want to hear from you. Email any suggestions you have to help support the NBO community.

Feel free to share this with your friends.

Every Saturday we have a Zoom Art Day. This is not a meeting. It is an informal session when people work on a project while we visit and chat. It is an opportunity for people to show what they are working on, to get help with something or to ask questions. This lasts about two hours.

We have had two Zoom workshops where one of our members who is very familiar with a technique teaches it to the others. One workshop was about how to make some rims to finish
a basket. The other one was teaching the "Step Up" method.

Finally, we were scheduled to have an exhibit at the Mendocino Art Center for the month of July. They will not be open so we worked with them and instead they will have a virtual exhibit of our work on their website.

NBO Presents: An Interview with Sarita Westrup

Sarita is also co-founder of TIERRA FIRME, a project-based collaborative effort that speaks to their identity as women born and raised on the border of the US & Mexico.

Tune in on Saturday, July 17th at  8PM Eastern / 7PM Central / 6PM Mountain / 5PM Pacific. The  program will last 30-45 minutes. Please email us for more information on how to watch the interview.
