Sharing Our Orchard
Growing Farm Food and Family Fun

The time has come to gather! Although large groups are still not possible, it is certainly time to celebrate with friends and family, enjoying fellowship, community and face-to-face conversation. Turn the cell phones off and focus on one another. Celebrate the summer season’s arrival and the country we live in with the freedoms we enjoy. Most of all, celebrate that restrictions are lifting and we can meet together again! I’m not sure about you, but I have learned to appreciate, and not take for granted, this simple pleasure of gathering, whether at the park, the farm, or on your own patio. I‘m looking forward to hosting a simple family picnic on Canada day by lighting a bonfire, roasting some hot dogs and playing lawn games with the grandkids. At the peak of our celebration we are going to enjoy this delicious dessert that I will share with you (see recipe at bottom of newsletter). It can be made ahead of time and is portable enough that you can take it with you to any form of get-together. Kick off the summer season, decorate with Canadian flags, and take a moment to enjoy time & community with friends and family.
Gather together at the farm and enjoy the Farmhouse Cafe patio!
Summer hours begin June 27th

Market open 9am-6pm and Cafe from 9am-4pm. Tours run every day starting June 27th.
Summer feels like it has finally arrived, and after a very wet June we are all ready for some heat. Last year we received 39.5 mm of rain in June but this year to date we have already received 51.3 mm with 6 more days to go! Two great things about the extra moisture have been the lush green hills around us and that there is no fire ban, so we can still enjoy a backyard bonfire. The strawberries are also happier in cooler weather. They will be winding down soon though, so if you have not yet made your jam or frozen any berries, now is the time. Most of the field crops we grow LOVE the heat: corn, melons, tomatoes and peppers. Summer signifies the coming of a variety of fruits too, starting with cherries, a favorite for many. Between a late season, hard frost, hail, and all the rain this spring, it has been a tough go for cherry farmers, but we hope to have a steady supply over the next month, with apricots and peaches soon to follow.
Learn to make this perfect picnic dessert: Strawberry Lemon Delight!
Enjoy summer and all it entails: Okanagan fruit, outdoor picnics and barbeques with friends and family, the amazing lakes and outdoor adventures in our area, time on the patio (ours or yours), and most of all, gathering together again!

Happy Canada Day to you and yours,
Tamra,
For the Davison Family

PS: Come celebrate Canada Day at the farm! Farm tours will run 10am-4pm, with 2 special features in the Farmhouse Cafe: For lunch we will be serving Pulled Pork with homemade potato salad, and a side of apple sauce. Finish off lunch with strawberry shortcake topped with real whipped cream!
