Weekly Summary as at: 25 June 2020
Hi <<First Name>>

Hydro storage in the North Island increased by 49% from 104 GWh to 154 GWh following on from rainfall across the North Island over the past week. Storage declined by 3% in the South Island from 2,555 GWh to 2,485 GWh, although there were two days of strong inflow, the remaining days of the week saw below average inflows.

Current levels for the North and South Islands are 62% and 83% of average respectively, placing upward pressure on market prices. Nationally weekly demand declined 0.5% to 814 GWh from 818 GWh.

At a national level storage is still substantially above the watch curve. Thermal fuel supply remains healthy and appears less constrained than in recent years. No simulated storage trajectories currently cross the emergency risk curves. Over the past week we have observed that all thermal generators are operating consistently including Whirinaki during the evening peaks.

We have completed the ERC update for June with the new risk curves included in this week’s chart update.

This month we have also carried out a thermal fuel scenario to model the impact of a significant gas pipeline disruption for the next three months. The results of these can be seen here
