April to June 2020 (No. 59)

Message from EAAFP Chief Executive

I wish everyone is doing well in the COVID-19 situation and that you have been able to adapt to the new working style.

The Secretariat is continuing its work. Following the guidelines of the South Korean government we have divided staff into two groups; each group works in the Office on alternate workdays and from home on the other workday. In this way, the potential exposure to COVID-19 is halved.

Recently, the Secretariat has signed two Memorandum of Understanding: one with
Hwaseong City (Authorized management city of Hwaseong Wetlands FNS) and Gyeongsangnam-do Ramsar Environmental Foundation (involved in supporting Upo Wetland FNS). These MoU’s are to enhance the conservation of migratory waterbirds and wetlands in Ro Korea and more broadly in our Flyway through knowledge and experience exchange.

We have seen many of you exploring and making good use of online communication technologies to support conservation activities. The Secretariat and our Partners and collaborators also overcame the challenge of celebrating
World Migratory Bird Day and moved on-line.

Regarding the updates for the EAAFP MOP11, we have been in close consultation with the EAAFP Management Committee and the hosting country - Australian Government, on the situation of COVID-19. The planned dates of MOP 11 continue to be 14-19 March 2021. In early October the Management Committee, with full consultation with the Australian Government, will make a final decision on the planned face-to-face MoP. We will update Partners by email, and on our
MOP 11 page as soon as this decision is made.

Please stay in touch with us, take care and enjoy the eNewsletter.

Yours sincerely,
Doug Watkins
