July 2020 Newsletter
Dear members and subscribers,
These are tough times, but if you’re working in the music industry, Victoria is the place to be, with vital support coming from local, State and Federal Governments.
Recently, we’ve seen:
- $1 million in music workers grants announced last week as part of the Victorian Government's Sustaining Creative Workers grant program. Congratulations to all of the successful recipients.
- The first recipients of the Federal Government’s $2 million Indigenous Contemporary Music Program, including the National Indigenous Music Awards and the APRA AMCOS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office, have also been announced.
We want to use this newsletter to alert our members of the funding opportunities and support currently available to you:

Victorian live music venues can seek financial support (between $80,000 to $130,000 dependent on capacity) over the next ten days by applying through the Victorian Live Music Venues program. The grants are open to operators of licensed venues with a demonstrated history of programming original live music performance. Past and future programming will be taken into account, as well as the venue’s importance to a community or region, including supporting a regional music ecosystem, for instance, or a particular community (such as First Peoples, LGBTQIA+).
Applications close August 6. More info here.

Musicians, crew and music workers who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19 can apply for Support Act’s Crisis Relief grants.
These are not creative grants, they are there to help:
- musicians, crew and music workers who are unable to access Government benefits due to eligibility or other issues
- music workers who have been able to access Government benefits but are still facing financial hardship;
- those who are suffering financial hardship as a result of injury, ill-health or a mental health issue that is managed through a current Mental Health plan.
There is no deadline to apply, however, we encourage anyone experiencing hardship to submit an application as soon as possible.
Visit the Get Help page on the Support Act website for more info.
