DUT’S CHIROPRACTIC STUDENTS ARE LIFELONG LEARNERS THROUGH COIL PROJECT
The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Dr Cleo Prince is passionate about teaching and learning, clinical supervision, research and now Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). COIL was founded in 2006 by the State University of New York Professor Jon Rubin, as a model for fostering cross-cultural student competence through the development of multicultural learning environments that link University or college classes in different countries online.
Dr Cleo PrinceDr Prince has been involved in lecturing at DUT since 2016 when she was employed as a part-time lecturer.
DUT IEP COMMEMORATES WORLD REFUGEE DAY WITH A VIRTUAL DIALOGUE
Durban University of Technology (DUT), International Education and Partnerships (IEP) Office held a World Refugee Day Virtual Dialogue on 19 June 2020. This virtual dialogue was aimed at paying tribute to all refugees and asylum seekers. The event recognises refugee students at DUT for their excellent academic performance and making an indelible mark at the institution.
This year’s theme being: Every Action Counts, the IEP noted that the theme reflected the notion of the event and urged everyone to assist, engage and educate where possible. The event was facilitated by IEP’s Mr Kgware Moeti and featured a host of speakers such as Ms Yasmin Rajah, Director from the Refugee Social Services, who focused on the Refugee COVID-19 Crisis.
DIRECTOR OF PROTECTION SERVICES, MR BONGANI MDUEKA’S THREE MONTHS IN OFFICE
The newly appointed first Director of Protection Services at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Mr Bongani Mdeuka will be soon completing three months in office.
Speaking about joining DUT, Mdueka was a former SAPS Colonel and Acting Cluster Commander of Crime Intelligence for eThekwini Central from 2017, until he joined DUT in his new role which began on 7 April 2020.
Mdeuka whose career in SAPS spans about 33 years is no stranger to DUT, prior to his appointment he was working closely with the institution as a chairperson of the Joint Operations Command (JOC).
In commemoration of Youth Month, the Golden Key (GK) International Honour Society Durban University of Technology (DUT) Chapter in partnership with Food for Life South Africa (FFL SA) recently rolled out a massive feeding drive in the poverty-stricken area of Welbedacht in Chatsworth. This was part of their Youth Month campaign, offering a helping hand in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 and its effects on the area.
GK International Honour Society DUT collaborated with FFL SA on their mission of eradicating hunger and malnutrition in South Africa.
FFL SA helped to bring GK DUT Chapter’s Youth Month programme to life by providing more than one thousand hot meals to the “forgotten youth” living in the informal settlement within Welbedacht.
Democracy is about discourse, debate and depending on where one stands diatribe. Ultimately democracy’s defining moment is the moment when one eligible person casts one and only one vote, in secret, without fear or favour.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) threatened to change democracy. Researcher and experts began discussing election-related 4IR technologies such as electronic voting both remote and poll site-based; blockchain for added-remote voter integrity; blockchain for trusted bill-of-material supply chain logistics; artificial intelligence of electoral results analysis and so on; cloud computing for storage and so on. But what is 4IR? 4IR is a popular term describing the dynamic environment through which disruptive technologies and trends are changing the way we live, work and relate to one another.
