Kuriakos' 90th Anniversary
4 Ways to Participate Throughout the Summer

Over the last 90 years, our focus on Togetherness has made this a special place for many people. Here are ways you can help us bring the Togetherness of Kuriakos alive in celebration of our 90th Anniversary.

Send your contributions to 90years@kuriakos.ab.ca
Share on social media #Kuriakos90Years

Submissions for the Grace Book (see below) must be received by July 15 to be included.

The rest will be shared online and at our Anniversary Celebrations at Thanksgiving
Act Out Our History

Pick a story from the History Book or tell your own.

Here's our staff starring in
"The Story of the Bell"

For over 60 years, the C.N.R. bell number 2707 has been a symbol of Kuriakos. Here's how it came to us in the 1950s.
The Graces (and Voices) of Kuriakos

Our Anniversary Project is a different sort of History Book; it's a record of the many table graces (and stories, and songs, and memories) that form a part of our life at Kuriakos.

The book will be available for sale at our 90th Anniversary Celebrations, in the Canteen, and Online.
Record a Grace

You are invited to record yourself singing a Kuriakos table grace.

This will be included with the book (on YouTube) as an audio record of the printed words and tune.

Tell Your Story

What has Kuriakos meant to you?

Write down your own story of Kuriakos, to be included in the Grace Book (see above) and shared online.

It could be just a few lines of memories, a detailed story, a favourite photo...

You'll find Michael Gillingham's Kuriakos Story below.

Take a Photo

We're making 90s out of camp!

Find objects that remind you of Kuriakos and make them into the shape of a 90...

Or just find 90 "camp" things!

Then send it to us for a photo collage.

I first visited Kuriakos in the early 1990s. The Alberta Synod hosted a workshop there for Sunday School superintendents and teachers. I was serving as a Sunday School superintendent for Valhalla Lutheran Church in Valhalla Centre, Alberta at the time. My wife, my son, and I made the trek from Northern Alberta to this wonderful outdoor oasis by Sylvan Lake. We have loved the camp since then. More recently, I spent a lot of time at the camp with the teenagers I worked with from Immanuel in Rocky Mountain House and Bethel in Sherwood Park. I've literally brought hundreds of teens from my church to experience God's goodness in nature at Kuriakos. We've stayed in Dana Lodge, in the Kuriakos Centre, and more recently in the ARC in the fall, the winter, and the spring. We've hosted our own retreats and programs at Kuriakos and we've also enjoyed Confirmation Retreats hosted by the camp.

In addition to enjoying the physical space at camp, I've also enjoyed the pastoral ministries of both Pastor Dave and Pastor Art. Other camp staff have also been a real support and inspiration for me and for our teenagers over the years. Most recently, I've been serving on the Board of Directors for the camp. It's been inspiring to meet the other members of the board and to get a different sense of the deep love and support that Camp Kuriakos receives from its staff, volunteers, and many supporters in the larger community and in the larger church community. The camp is facing several challenges right now and I pray that God will protect, preserve, and grow the ministry of Kuriakos. Truly a wonderful place to be "set apart to be together"!
