Art in the Park

Live Music Too!

Saturday, July 4

Spend some of your July 4 holiday enjoying the pleasure of being out and about in the river parks of downtown Peterborough for its 4th annual Art in the Park.  This event offers you an opportunity to view and purchase the work of local artists/crafters, listen to live music and enjoy street entertainment! In the past, the event has been well supported by visitors and the community.

A Storywalk

Local Artist Adds to Fun!

July 13 - 31

Beginning on July 13, you can walk along the path behind the Hancock Meeting House, where pages from Peterborough author and illustrator Lita Judge's  Flight School will be laid out for you to read as you go. As you follow along with this whimsical story about a little bird who never gives up on a dream and the friends that help make it come true, we invite you to think about what dreams you won’t give up on.

Free and open to the public. This event is co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and the Hancock Town Library. As a conservation learning center, the Harris Center has continued to offer events. View more Harris Center events.

What Makes a Song?

Homer to Hank Williams

July 12, 10:45 am

What makes a song? What makes us want songs in our lives? Where do songs come from? At the Monadnock Lyceum on July 12,  Jim Rooney will answer these and other questions - and sing!

Rooney discovered Hank Williams’ songs while a teenager and began to explore the roots of country and blues music. He learned of the connections to songs imported to Appalachia from the British Isles and Ireland. Reaching back still further, he became aware that the Homeric poems were actually oral poems, not written. It became clear to him that he had joined a very long, deep, and legitimate tradition as a singer, adapter, and writer of songs.

Sponsor Peterborough Folk Music dedicates this program to the memory of Joel Green, a Monadnock Region giant in folk music.
