Minister's Message

Caring for one another

During this time of not being able to meet face to face there have been some concerns that I have had along the way.

As the church, the building is not who we are, for we are a community of people who worship together and who build one another up in faith and love. One of my concerns was how we do this when we do not gather together for worship.

I have been delighted to hear stories of how people in our church are caring for one another, calling each other up, inviting friends over to watch and participate in worship together on a Sunday morning. Apparently one person said that they were feeling more connected to the church because of the phone calls and support they have received.

I hope and pray that no one is falling through the gaps. Our pastoral care team is working hard to try and make sure that all who are connected to our church are being supported and connected into the life of our community. If you know of anyone who needs a contact from the church because they are struggling or feeling left out, please let us know.

Over the coming months, as we work out how we can come back together for worship, small groups and other ministries, our care for one another is going to be more important than ever. Some people will want to return to gathering together faster than others. Those who are more cautious, because they may be more vulnerable to this disease due to age or health, will need to be cared for until they are ready to return to groups. Some people will be affected by the recession that this COVID-19 has created, and there may be a need to use our church's benevolent fund to support those in financial hardship from the effects of the recession.

As a part of being a community, we may need to help people practically as well as spiritually. Our benevolent fund is supported by occasional donations from people in our congregation and it is used to assist people in moments of financial hardship.

Our church is meant to be a community worshiping together, building one another up in love and faith. We need to all work together to achieve this goal, whether we are meeting together in our building like I hope will happen soon, or whether we are meeting like we are now, scattered across our homes.

Blessings,
Richard
