The Most Important Goal
By Swami Satchidananda

Your real partner is your soul. You are married to your soul, your spirit, or the God within. When you really have that spiritual awakening, your recognize that your first responsibility is to yourself—to know your Self. Everything and everybody is there to help you to reach that goal. You’re not alone. Anything or anyone that interferes in your practice is not your friend. Treat them as such, because they are obstacles to your spiritual growth.  MORE

For the first time in Integral Yoga history, Guru Poornima will be celebrated only virtually rather than as a special in-person event at Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville and in Integral Yoga centers worldwide. Yogaville will host a morning and evening program on Saturday, July 4th. Then, on Sunday evening, July 5th, Yogaville will host full moon chanting in remembrance of all the lives that have been lost due to, and affected by, both the pandemic and racial/social injustice. More details here for Yogaville, New York IYI, and San Francisco IYI.

A re-edited downloadable version of this documentary is now available. This one-hour film tells the story of the birth of the modern Yoga movement and its impact on the world today. It includes interviews with Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Mehmet Oz, pop artist Peter Max, Felix Cavaliere (lead singer, The Rascals), Sharon Gannon and David Life (Jivamukti Yoga founders), Br. David Steindl-Rast, Swamis Karunananda, Asokananda, Ramananda, among others.

There are some phone calls no one wants to receive. I received mine on March 29, 2018, while driving home from teaching at Electric Soul Yoga in Los Angeles. My husband, Eric Paskel, was the muffled voice at the other end of the line. “I had a bad ski accident, and I’m in the hospital.” Even though my heart immediately sank, I recognized the need to be of service. And to do so, to engage in the practice of sakshi (witness). “Be the witness amidst challenge,” I told myself.  MORE

Shri K. Ramasamy shares advice he received from his Guru, Swami Satchidananda. A key concept is how to transform business into service. Shri Ramasamy is a highly successful and respected entrepreneur and businessman in South India. He also serves as the President of the Integral Yoga Institute in Coimbatore India, the managing trustee of Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan International School, and the philanthropic Swami Satchidananda Trust.

In a recent Forbes magazine article, the reporter asked, "Is in-person Yoga a no-go in a post-pandemic world?" Yoga pods (see photo)? We asked Chandra Sgammato (Integral Yoga Institute of New York executive director) her view: "We are confident we can sanitize regularly, create enough space for proper distancing and clean Yoga rooms thoroughly between classes. We will need to ask students to bring their own mats and will adapt classes to require no props or touch corrections. The biggest challenge? Seeing how it feels to teach and practice Yoga while wearing masks."

Spirituality:
Turning Toward Whatever is Happening Now

By Rev. Kamala Itzel Hayward

A lot of people have this idea that being spiritual is about being peaceful. But that idea of spirituality just turns spirituality into wanting to get from here now where you are to there where you want to be, where you think you should be. It becomes resisting this present moment experience and instead trying to match some image that the mind has created, called peace, or serenity, or enlightenment. But, I want you to think about spirituality as turning toward whatever is happening now. Turning toward whatever is happening now, whatever is happening in the body... MORE

We posted a link (in our last issue) that has since changed. This is the new link to the replay from the LIVE panel with Integral Yoga minister Rev. Kamala Itzel Hayward and Mazin Jamal Mahgoub, moderated by Swami Ramananda. The discussion includes how—from a spiritual vantage point—we can heal systemic racism as well as deep-seated, collective trauma of BIPOC caused by racism, oppression, and the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmad Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others. Explore the lessons and the changes we must make NOW. Download a PDF we compiled that can help you make a difference.

On the occasion of the Summer Solstice, Satchidananda Farm was rededicated with a puja. Afterward, Shanti Das  provided musical offerings on the harmonium and guitar.

It appears that the dedication was
well-received. The Farm was then also blessed with a magnificent rainbow! Jai!
