COVID19 Cottage Housekeeping

We’ve been having a fairly quiet summer what with the new fireworks bylaw and COVID19 keeping us all social distancing on Big Bald Lake. We hope that you and your loved ones have not been personally touched by COVID19 and that you are enjoying this very hot weather and keeping hydrated.

With the current situation in Ontario, we know not everyone is back to work or able to rent to help with the costs of carrying a cottage, so we made a board decision to not charge membership fees for 2020.

Note if you had already paid for 2020, you will be extended for an extra year.

Water testing has begun again and that cost, website, FOCA membership and our insurance will be our main expenses this year which we can cover without additional funds.

Social Committee Update

We have canceled all social events with the exception of the movie night where we hope to do a boat-in event, anchor your boat and bring your own popcorn. It will, as always, be weather permitting, on the Saturday of the Labour Day weekend. I haven’t selected a movie as yet so please let me know your thoughts to Sue.bblca@gmail.com and let me know if you own the DVD or blue ray or if we have to buy it. Thinking about the first Indiana Jones movie if no suggestions.

I am trying to source a new water polo net without success or if anyone has an alternative idea on how to make the ones we own work better please let me know.

Welcome baskets are postponed for 2020, if you have a new neighbour please encourage them to sign up for the newsletter on our website.

The photo contest this year is just sending in photos of projects you’ve finally had time to finish with the Great Pause, or how you’re spending your time coping with your staycation. I have been painting and floating intermittently. We hope you have had some great projects accomplished too and we’d like to see them if you’d like to share. Send to Sue.bblca@gmail.com for Facebook posts.

BBLCA BOARD BUSINESS

Legally we can postpone the AGM until 6 months after COVID19 is under control or we can send a newsletter AGM report, with a form for voting similar to the quarry vote,  the board will be meeting soon to determine how we should best proceed.

We do need some new board members, in particular, we need a new social director as my 6 year term was completed in May. That said, I will continue to be on the social committee and help with all events as required and many of the current events we put on have an established team. If you are interested and would like more details please feel free to contact me.

Additional board members are always welcome to join, we meet as required yearly or to vote on issues via email. Please let us know if you would be interested in helping keep this organization fully functional. Contact our president, Tabatha or myself.

Thanks,

Sue Flanagan

SOCIAL DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The creation and delivery of the welcome baskets, I generally make up 15 and head out on long weekends.
Coming up with photo contests and tallying the vote at the AGM.
Doing a social committee report for the AGM
Coming up with new events or adding to existing events as you wish
Helping with events already happening, such as:
  • Santa Claus Parade hosted by the Flanagan’s
  • Winter Carnival hosted by Kim and Glenn
  • Regatta currently hosted by 4 households
  • Movie night currently hosted by Michelle and Drew
  • Kayak water hockey polo schedule
Additional Philrick activities are optional, road clean up and witches walk
Storage of materials used for events as required.

We had planned to expand the regatta to a new location this summer and we were working on some new challenges as well so fingers crossed the pandemic is under control before 2021.  The shirt colours were going to be 2 shades of blue and certainly not having the regatta this summer has given me the blues!
So don’t worry I will still be Admiral Sue in 2021!

I've had a blast creating events and I will continue to participate as a volunteer!

S
ue Flanagan

Just a reminder that there is currently a fire ban due to the extreme heat, please follow us on Facebook to get updated when it is lifted.

Additionally there will be no Fireworks allowed until the August long weekend,
and then only if the fire ban has been lifted.
And please remember to walk facing traffic, should you come across other pedestrians please respect a 6 foot social distance and please keep your dogs on leashes to minimize contact.

Thanks!

Keep Safe, Keep Healthy!
