Bracken by Rose Rushbrooke

A blast from the past. Amazingly this quilt "Bracken" was returned after an exhibition tour of over 4 years. It traveled all over America and was shown at museums, galleries, art centers, quilt shows, you name it, it was there.

Two things stick with me when I look at this quilt. It was shown at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC which as far as I'm concerned is totally cool. And secondly, a fancy coffee table book was published with pictures of all the quilts, which National Park they represented, who made each one, and how they were constructed. Which is totally cool. A double cool indeed.

The quilt is now hanging above my daybed in the studio. As I haven't seen it for an extremely long time it keeps catching my admiring eye.

What? I can't indulge in a little self trumpeting? Wouldn't you?

Life sure is different now. Once upon a time I dreamed of seeing an Egyptian Pharaoh's tomb. It was a bucket list item.

Now I can do it virtually. I mean really, I love rummaging through those online websites with properties for sale, finding the virtual tour and then wandering around a house I will never own.

Didn't even think of ambling through someone's ancient tomb. Wonder if they have one for the ruins of Pompeii?

Go on, Walk Like An Egyptian ...

Or you can listen .... Walk Like An Egyptian ...

Horrible email to receive. The Bead & Button brand will be no more. Another Rona casualty.

Makes sense. Touchy feely bumping into each other huggy physical kinds of events aren't going to happen any time soon. And that's that. And their annual show is the major moneymaker therefore no more Bead & Button.

Triffid by Rose Rushbrooke

Good memories of becoming a finalist in their prestigious show Bead Dreams with my Triffid. The one and only time I've entered the exhibition and sadly, it will remain so.

And for those of you who really need something else to do (really?) you can download the free beading pattern Triangles and Squares which was published by Bead & Button back in 2012 (gawd - 8 years ago, no way).

This is me, trying to understand American-isms every day. It works the other way - if I ask where I can 'spend a penny' most born and raised Americans would tell me; in a store, or nowadays - online .....

(If you don't know what it means then you are not a Brit and if you do know what it means then you are, or have talked to, a Brit or two).

And on that note I will put my crisps and biscuit wrappers in my dustbin, take my torch with me tonight when I am walking on the pavement, watch for lorries with mad drivers, and make sure my barrister knows I keep my handbag in the boot of my petrol driven Morris Minor.
