Meet Aura, a poised, highly-articulate 17-year-old Guatemalan girl. CCI supports her education through PROGRESA, one of our program partners.

Aura and other indigenous girls in Guatemala usually are excluded when it comes to education.

No more.

With CCI support, Aura and other girls intend to go on to college to break the cycle of subsistence survival for Mayan girls and women.

Aura explains

that although she and other indigenous Maya continue to face discrimination in Guatemala, she knows that education will help her stand up for her rights and offer an opportunity for a better life than that of her mother.

About Aura

Aura, her mom and 5 siblings live here (her father abandoned the family years ago). She is responsible for cooking, cleaning and caring for her younger siblings while their mother works from early morning to late in the evening each day.
