Apply to Test SolarAPP: The Emerging US Solar Permitting Solution

July 15, 2020

SolarAPP Team Seeks Authorities Having Jurisdiction as Pilot Partners

NREL has been working with code officials, building officials, and industry project partners to test and pilot the Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP) Platform.

The tool provides a no-touch, online, instant permitting solution for residential rooftop solar projects. Local governments can now apply to pilot and adopt the tool.

Local Governments Can Apply to Pilot SolarAPP

The SolarAPP team is seeking local governments and other “authorities having jurisdiction” (AHJs) to pilot the platform at no cost to them. The SolarAPP team can work with most AHJs to develop a testing plan.

If your community is interested, join the testing queue before SolarAPP’s formal launch in September by completing the AHJ SolarAPP Interest Questionnaire. The SolarAPP team will evaluate your situation and contact you about next steps.

Next Webinar Update: Testing Lessons and Piloting Opportunities

Over the past several months, SolarAPP has been vetted by a variety of organizations including cities, companies, and associations. As a result of this testing, the SolarAPP team is hosting a webinar on August 5th at 11 am MT to:
  • Show recent SolarAPP improvements
  • Demonstrate how SolarAPP can integrate with existing software or stand alone
  • Discuss how SolarAPP has benefited partner communities
  • Explain how you can adopt SolarAPP.
Through NREL's Solar Market Research & Analysis outreach, we're striving to keep you up to date on our latest research.
