VIEWS FROM THE GROUND
Izenzo’s new reality during Covid is that we are now assisting more churches where unemployment may have increased from 80% to close to 100%. We are grateful that the collaboration we initiated around unemployment before the pandemic laid the basis for a more effective, co-operative response. This has been in providing food or vouchers, and supplying masks for the most vulnerable. We are grateful to those who have assisted us to provide. We have also seen the churches rise up and work together in ways that we could not have previously imagined.
We have retained our focus on empowering churches to assist those who have no work. As national unemployment moves from 38% towards 50%, finding regular jobs for the unemployed will be difficult or near impossible. So how can churches and cell/life groups adapt and increase their response? We discuss below how the focus of Job Clubs moves towards survivalist businesses and SME Clubs. Yet our hope remains the same, we work within a new normal, focussed on a transforming Christ Jesus; revealing how He heals our fractured world through His united body.
Psalm 133
1 How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
3 It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.
