AWE Summer Newsletter

Hi! We hope you are safe and enjoying your summer, whether looks like spending time spent with family/friends, learning and growing from internships or classes, or taking time to relax. As we are near the midpoint of summer (!!), we would like to give some updates and check in with everyone.

Supporting the Black Community

AWE continues to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and is working to better support our Black community. As we shared in early June, we have compiled resources we have found helpful in continuing to learn, donate, and build a more inclusive tech community. We encourage you to share more resources with the AWE community and use our Slack to engage with our board and each other.

AWE has donated $2000 to Black Girls Code, Black Girls Do STEM, The Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund for Black Women and Girls, and the Equal Justice Initiative. We are committed to investing more advocacy, programming, and funding for long term equity and inclusion initiatives and these donations are just the beginning.

We’re writing a blog about what AWE members have been up to in shelter-in-place/over the summer and we want to hear from you!

Student Technology Equity Program

If you need tech equipment or internet access assistance: UC Berkeley just launched STEP which is aimed to assist students with demonstrated need by providing laptops, mobile hotspots, drawing tablets, and noise-canceling headphones to assist in Fall 2020’s remote learning. Applications are due July 15th.
