Future 2020 Concerts

Dear Member,

A few days ago, you should have received an email which advised you that, with great regret, Trianon Music Group Trustees have decided that the remainder of planned events for 2020 will have to be cancelled. This means that we have now cancelled six events starting in April and continuing through to November 2020.

From the conversations we have had with many members in the weekly Trianon Tea and Cocktail Parties, there has been a growing expectation that the decision would be a necessary one. However, there was always a hope that we might be able to retain something of the planned programme, but the factors that we had to take into account were many and varied. In reaching the decision, we have been working with other organisations as part of a series of meetings coordinated by Ipswich Arts Association, and whilst it is up to each organisation to make their own decisions, the growing consensus is that the challenge and risks attached to any “live” event currently is too great, apart from which it is impossible for groups of more than thirty to meet and certain activities are not allowed.

Trustees felt that it might be helpful to members if they saw the summary of factors that we have considered. This is based upon current guidance and information collected by some of our Trustees and in conversation with Ipswich Borough Council. This document is available to read here, and has been in circulation with Ipswich Arts member societies for a fortnight.

The Group now has to review what it can do over the next months. This, Trustees will be doing. In the meantime, the Music Committee has been working hard (via Zoom) to complete the programming for 2021 and will be sharing their work as soon as possible.

The weekly Trianon Get Togethers are proving exceptionally important, bringing together as they do members of the choir, orchestra, former members and members of partner groups from across the world together with members of their families.  Colleagues from Trianon - Maddy Rhodes and Gillian Williams - have been working hard each week to get in touch with members to join in, and there was an Open Invitation in the June Newsletter. We have also enjoyed recorded performances by some of our musicians during these get togethers.

Please do join in, especially on Friday 31 July at 8pm when we have a very special and distinguished musical guest – Debbie Wiseman - talking about her work. All are welcome but space will be limited and so book now with either Gillian (01473 312150 or gillianwilliams20@btinternet.com) or Maddy (01394 448549 or maddyrhodes@btinternet.com).

We are also planning at present for a Tour in the autumn of 2021, and a small group is considering possible destinations. It is expected that more information will be published in the early autumn.

In summary: whilst the lockdown and current social easing does not make it possible for groups to meet face-to-face, we must stay in touch. Mistakes will be made, for which we apologise in advance, but we do not want to leave any member of the family that is Trianon out of what we are currently doing, thinking or planning.

It is also nice to get feedback in these grim times, and that has been appreciated, whether by email or by a phone call. So, please get in touch and stay in touch because we need to be ready to make music again.

Take care, keep safe and see you soon!

Simon Fisher, Chris Green, Cath Bury (on behalf of the Trustees and Music Committee)
