End COVID For All Campaign

The UNAA have signed the #endCOVIDforall campaign. The campaign highlights the challenges faced by vulnerable people and encourages Australia to support its regional neighbours in responding to COVID19. You can sign on to support the campaign here

You can read more about some of the challenges and the technology solutions being developed in  UN Technology to Cope with COVID and Beyondby Professor Walter Dorn. Professor Dorn teaches on the UN and is a consultant with the UN Office of Communications and Information Technology.


From the Foreign Minister

Australia's Foreign Minister and Minister for Women, Marise Payne has delivered a speech to the UN Human Rights Council Panel on COVID10 and the Rights of Women and Girls.

The Foreign Minister and Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds attended the 2020 Australia-United States Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN) in Washington this week. You can read the joint statement from Australia and the US here, highlighting that the Australia and US "shared commitment to freedom and democracy remains unbreakable".


2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Report
 
The 2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Report has been released, bringing together the latest data and showing the unevenness of progress toward the SDGs even prior to COVID-19. In the report, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for: 
 
"Renewed ambition, mobilisation, leadership and collective action, not just to beat COVID-19 but to recover better, together"
 
The report finds world is not on track to meet most goals and with the impacts of COVID-19, there is an unprecedented social, economic and health crisis which will make reaching the targets even more challenging.

75th Anniversary of the Charter of the United Nations

The Charter of the United Nations celebrated it's 75th Anniversary on 26 June 2020. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke in the UN Chronicle hereof the Charter being as important as ever to "maintain international peace and security, protect human rights, achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen multilateralism".
