Enabling research to be translated into action to positively impact on the health of people.

Message from the CEO
Involving consumers and community members in research is a key ingredient of successful impactful research and an important focus of the work conducted at HTSA and SAHMRI.

We were very excited to hold our first consumer and community engagement induction webinar on Thursday 30 July 2020. In partnership with SAHMRI we delivered an induction session to all members on the Community Interest Register to connect with and prepare them for future research engagement. The webinar was delivered by Dr Agustina Gancia, HTSA Senior Project Officer for Consumer Engagement and Ellen Kerrins, chair of the SAHMRI Community Advisory Group.
Prior to the session all Register members were surveyed to better understand their reasons for being engaged, their level of experience in research and what they wished to know from an induction session. These interviews helped inform the session which included content on the basics of the research cycle to the value and importance of community engagement in research.

We are confident that community members on the Community Interest Register have the capacity to join research teams with the aim of sharing their lived experience and contributing to the production of meaningful research.  Please click here to learn more about the Community Interest Register or contact Agustina Gancia to request support in the engagement of a community member into a research project.

Stay safe and healthy.

> New HTSA Strategic Project

Supporting the timely access and linkages between the acute and primary care sectors, and the subsequent transfer of important patient information is the focus of a new project being coordinated by HTSA and funded by the Medical Research Future Fund.

The aim is to better use the rich supply of healthcare data in South Australia to improve continuity of care across the primary/acute care interface. Following an introductory meeting with key stakeholders last week HTSA is commencing a scoping exercise which includes consultation with key staff in the SA research, academic and health service delivery sectors. If you are keen to be involved in the project or would like further information please contact us at

> Have your say about consumer and community involvement needs in healthcare and health and medical research

An online knowledge hub for consumer and community involvement in healthcare and health and medical research is currently being developed. It will bring together all the consumer and community involvement resources, contacts and information you need - together in the one place.

Australian Health Research Alliance (AHRA) is developing this online knowledge hub to further connect health professionals, researchers, managers, consumers and community members across Australia.

We are asking Australian healthcare professionals, researchers, managers and consumers to tell us about your information, resource and support needs for consumer and community involvement in a short 10-minute survey.

Take the survey below.
