News:

EDD Begins Expansion of California Paid Family Leave Program

The California Employment Development Department will begin implementation of an expansion to the Paid Family Leave program from six to eight weeks of benefits available, which was included in the 2019-20 state budget as part of Governor Gavin Newsom’s Parents Agenda. Read more here.

$37.5 billion paid to out of work Californians since start of pandemic

Unemployment benefits paid to workers hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last three-and-a-half months now total $37.5 billion – providing critical financial support to families and communities throughout California. According to the latest data, the state’s Employment Development Department (EDD) has processed a total of more than seven million claims in just a few months, almost doubling the claim total over the worst full year of the Great Recession (3.8 million claims in 2010).

Additional Unemployment Insurance Benefits Now Available

Individuals may now potentially receive up to a total of 59 weeks when combining their regular UI (up to 26 weeks) and PEUC (up to 13 weeks) claim amounts with the FED-ED extension (up to 20 weeks). That all depends on when someone exhausts their claim and how much time remains to collect PEUC or FED-ED benefits before those programs expire. Read more here.
