Dear Shake It Up Supporter,

On behalf of the 100,000 Aussies living with Parkinson’s thank you to everyone who donated to our end of financial year campaign. It has been a challenging year for all Australians, and we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support and generosity in such a challenging economic environment.

Despite the COVID-19 disruption to many businesses, Parkinson’s research continues to make progress with some promising work coming out of the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative PPMI) at The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each spring, PPMI study and site leads meet to share study updates and scientific findings. In mid-May, more than 350 investigators and researchers joined the annual meeting, which took place virtually for the first time. They shared two highlights from their research which shows they are closer to finding a blood test to measure disease progression and identifying potential tools to predict Parkinson’s disease.

Our friends at Parkinson’s South Australia are championing The Young Onset Parkinson’s Exchange (YOP-X) Project. The project involves the development of an App and online resources for people living with Young Onset Parkinson’s. With 20% of people under 50 and 10% under 40 when diagnosed this is a much needed and valuable tool for those who are diagnosed at a young age. They are looking for people to participate in several surveys including those with YOPD, their work colleagues, partners and relationships.

We encourage you to visit our website to learn about our research and how you can get involved to help make a difference.

From all of us at Shake It Up stay safe and well.

Regards

Each spring, PPMI study and site leads meet to share study updates and scientific findings. In mid-May, more than 350 investigators and researchers joined the annual meeting, which took place virtually for the first time.

“We’re incredibly proud of the study’s accomplishments in the past decade, which would not be possible without the enormous effort of clinical site teams, study leadership, working groups and committees, academia and industry partners, and particularly the participants from our patient community who have been so dedicated to this initiative,” said MJFF CEO Todd Sherer, PhD, in his welcoming remarks.

Here we share two highlights from analysis of PPMI data and samples.
