AC Council on Aging increasing delivery routes due to COVID-19

COVID-19 has resulted in a surge of clients who need meals delivered to their homes. The Aransas County Council on Aging (ACCA) has reconfigured its delivery routes and increased the number of routes from three to four.

The Margaret Sue Rust Foundation awarded the ACCA a $25,000 grant to purchase an additional delivery van to accommodate the fourth route.

“Our staff has been diligent in their efforts to supply the needed services while keeping themselves and our clients happy and healthy. I am very proud of them,” said ACCA Executive Director Mary Ellen Nies.

The Senior Services Center continues to be closed to the public, with lunches being picked up in the parking lot at the rate of about 30 per day.

ACCA will be returning to 5 day per week meals unless the client is specifically assigned to a 7-day program. This will allow the ACCA to continue serving all of its clients with the current level of funding. They have set their client limit to 225. Those applying now will be put on a waiting list and be filled into spots vacated by other clients who leave the program.

New Rockport Cultural Arts District Flags

Colorful Rockport Cultural Arts District (RCAD) flags will be installed on each side of the 38 light poles on Austin Street Tuesday July 6th, 2020.    The City will remove the American flags after the 4th holiday as usual and then replace them with RCAD flags starting at 8 am.

RCADs' Board Director Bonnie Carlisle championed this initiative, defining durable blue, green, pink, and yellow flags that display RCADs awesome Whooping Crane logo.   RCAD's VP, Deb Strothman, will be taking pictures of an anticipated very colorful Austin Street for promotional purposes

RCAD is very grateful to The Margaret Sue Rust Foundation who provided funding for this initiative.

RCAD is also grateful to the City of Rockport for their support of this initiative by placing, removing, and storing the flags.

RCAD's Mission is to highlight Rockport's artistic legacy as a vibrant creative community, encourage new life and economic development, enhance our community's cohesiveness and sense of place, and foster local cultural development.
