Weekend of Sunday July 9, 2020
It has now been a week since settling here in Camarillo, and everyone has been wonderful in welcoming my family and me into the life of this church and the community of Camarillo.  The gifts offered by the leadership on Sunday have already provided for dinner on one of the nights as well as constant snacking while unpacking all the boxes at home.  Soon, we will have a place where we call home and hopefully be able to invite folks for a meal.

My office, on the other hand, has a ways to go.  I have to admit that NOT ONE BOX has been unpacked yet as I find myself busy with other matters.  Getting to know folks who come by the office and learning the operations of the church take precedence over figuring out how I should organize my books at this time.  As I continue to settle in, I am slowly learning the history of the church and stories that you cherish about Camarillo UMC.

This coming Sunday, you'll hear a bit about my story of how I came to the states and the joy of being called into ministry.  The Scripture for this Sunday comes from the Gospel of Matthew and it is the well-known story of Jesus' parable, the Sower and the Seed.  I invite you to read the Scriptural passages (Isaiah 55:10-13 and Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23) and reflect upon the nature of the sower who spreads seeds upon the different soils.  May we listen to the voice of God's Spirit nudging our hearts and calling upon us to plant seeds of the kingdom that will transform the world and bring growth to the church.

I look forward to preaching this Sunday and sharing with you God's message.

Blessings, Pastor Elbert

SSP Choose Your Own Adventure
Monday - Friday for two weeks (July 6-10 & 13-17)
On ZOOM!

Anyone and everyone can participate in an online afternoon SSP session (2-3 pm or 3:30-4:30pm). CUMC Youth Alumni (& SSP counselor), Erin Kistler says: “Our participants this week seem to really enjoy our afternoon sessions, which are Choose Your Own Adventure. These are one-hour sessions offered twice in the afternoon which each participant gets to pick from nine or so different options. There are some really creative and fun options such as baking, learning about advocacy, meditation, walking club, and Zoom games.  I’ve attached the link below where you can read through the sessions and their descriptions. I know committing to being on Zoom all day is too much for some youth but these shorter sessions are a lot of fun and still have that great SSP community that we all love.”

  6. Click on that to hear the worship service in real time (before 9:15am, it will play recorded music and display current announcements.)
