Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR), co-funded as part of Enterprise Irelands Technology Centre Program, has been working on innovative responses to the global demand for life-saving ventilators. Having started work on COVID-19 initiatives at the very start of the pandemic, IMR is helping to research and develop two new ventilator systems in collaboration with Artesyn Bio, Malone Group, MIT and Air Power.

A recent research study by Irish Manufacturing Research in collaboration with Boston Scientific, on the potential energy savings and energy efficiency improvements in AHU system design by taking a Simulation Modelling approach. This enabled the feasibility of utilising a dehumidification cooling coil for the purpose of pre-heating fresh air and its implications in energy savings and cleanroom comfort levels. A cleanroom model was developed in Python to replicate the current system at Boston Scientific and various simulations were carried out for comparative analysis.

IMR and the Robotics Executive Committee (REC) carried out an industry survey as primary research on the real reasons Human-Robot Collaborative Applications are not wide-spread. The results will allow IMR to guide the REC activities and solutions in that space, as well as to get Industry to consider Collaborative Applications.

The objective of the survey is to understand the current state of collaborative robotics applications in manufacturing and to identify the major concerns that engineering managers and manufacturing directors have which prevent the wider adoption of collaborative robotics applications.
