Hi <<First Name>>,
🗣 PST...check out the latest community news from across Port Stephens.

The people of Port Stephens do amazing things every day. If you have a story you’d like us to feature, please get in touch — we’d love to hear from you!
Feel like having a yarn?
On Monday, Port Stephens Council announced their Have a Yarn program. This program is aimed at helping residents regain a sense of community, creativity and connection by dusting off the knitting needles, digging through old wool supplies and calling up a friend to have a yarn.

The idea is that 1 large yarn installation will be created in a public space of Port Stephens made out of the smaller pieces crafted by members of our community. Council is still searching for the artist to install this public art, if you're handy with knitting needles, be sure to submit an expression of interest by 5pm Monday 20 July.

If this sounds like something you'd like to be involved in, check out the Have a Yarn program linked above, or click the link below to read the expression of interest application details.
Extra! Read all about it!
Port Stephens libraries are commencing phase 2 of their re-opening as of Monday 13 July. Capacity restrictions will now rely on the 1 person per 4sqm rule. There will also be no limit on time in the libraries and the time limits on PCs have been extended.

Whilst re-openings are exciting, it's important that we all still maintain social distancing and stay at home if we feel unwell.
Port Stephens Local Stories
Visit NSW have created a special series of videos titled 'Port Stephens Local Stories'. They have interviewed the local legends of Port Stephens, from whale chasers to park rangers. We didn't need any proof that Port Stephens is full of amazing people, but if you did, this is it.

Check out the videos and let us know if you see any familiar faces — we spotted our resident history columnist, 'John Stinker' Clarke!

Live at the Alley
Join in LIVE on the Port Stephens Council page at 5pm on Tuesday 4 August for an awesome event full of music, slam poetry and other performances.

The event will be hosted by Ben Homer and will include the announcement of the winners of
our short film and song competition. The competition is open now until 5pm Friday 17 July. Entrants must be aged 12-24 and be living in Port Stephens and must address the theme 'connection' in their submission. The three categories are Best Short Film, Best Original Song, and Best Cover Song.

We can't wait to see the entries from our hugely talented youth community!
Let's help clean up Australia
The team at Clean Up Australia have noticed more plastic waste around as lockdown restrictions have begun to ease across the country. They say that it makes now the perfect time to get your crew together and register a mini Clean Up event. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in (or better yet, something that would keep the kids busy these school holidays), click the link below to learn more about how we can help clean up!
Concrete playground
After regional travel has been restricted again with the closing of the NSW/Victorian border, this time is perfect to explore our own backyard! Concrete Playground have put together an awesome list of 7 of the most beautiful walks, hikes and cycling trails in Port Stephens.

Check them out and see if they included your favourites, or if there are some that you're yet to tick off your list!
