I am sending this a second time because the link to the worship song did not work the first time.  I just listened to the song and it blessed me deeply this morning so I did not want anyone to miss out because of a faulty link.  God bless you today.  Thank you Morgan for sharing.  Trevor.

“Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23

These past few months have been so difficult! Many of us are isolated from friends, family, co-workers, and church community while frequently mourning deaths from COVID-19, police, and White supremacists. This season is exhausting.

I was talking to a friend this week who was beginning to lose hope. She was overwhelmed by the constant bad news and the blindness of people in her life to the atrocities impacting our nation. As I encouraged her to remember that God is faithful, and that victory is inevitable when we trust in God’s promises, I felt my spirit lifting as well. I needed a message of hope just as much as she did.

We must encourage ourselves to hope by reminding ourselves to trust in God’s character and in the promises of Scripture. We have to worship in our homes and let the words of truth wash over us. Practices like worshiping, praying, reading the Bible, and speaking truth over ourselves and others, help us to press into hope when our circumstances look bleak. When hopelessness creeps in, these practices are acts of resistance and defiance. They help us get back up when we fall.

In this season, the song, “The Story I’ll Tell” by Maverick City Music, has been ministering to my soul.  One part of the song that I have been singing to myself (and to God) all week is this:

“The hour is dark and it’s hard to see what you are doing, here in the ruins, and where this will lead.

Oh, but I know that down through the years, I’ll look on this moment, see your hand on it, and know you were here.

And I’ll testify of the battles you’ve won. How you were my portion when there wasn’t enough.

And I’ll testify of the seas that we crossed, the waters you parted, the waves that I’ve walked.”

This verse resonates very deeply with me this season. It has been hard to see what God is doing and how He will bring healing to our nation and our world. But when I look toward the future, I am filled with hope. I know that one day we will testify of the battles God won in this season. One day, we will testify of the waters God parted in this season. For now, we wait, we hope, we worship, and we keep fighting.
