From the sublime to the super-colourful! In this newsletter we begin with some beautiful designs in subdued colour tones. The styles are very different, but the neutral palettes lend themselves well to modern decor. We end with an eye-popping kaleidoscopic quilt that is available as a block-of-the-month starting next year.
Mineral is a stunning new collection of craft fabrics featuring Pure Morris designs from The Original Morris & Co. William Morris created rooms with honesty and simplicity and Pure Morris very much draws on these elements of the past to create a collection for modern living. Drawing on Morris’ values of craftsmanship and expertly executed patterns, the Mineral collection is one of pure simplicity and sophistication.
The collection comprises 14 prints, all available by the metre. We also have a Fat Quarter bundle of the collection and a smaller Fat Quarter bundle of 8 fabrics that includes instructions for making a 36" x 45" Accent quilt top (backing and binding not included).
Yoko Saito is a talented artist, designer, quilter and author of many books. She is particularly well known for her beautifully subtle “taupe colour” quilt projects. This Centenary Collection marks 25 years of collaboration with Lecien fabrics. Sadly it is also the last as Lecien has decided to stop manufacturing quilting fabrics.
To celebrate this 25 year collaboration Lecien have produced a Sampler Quilt kit designed by the talented Lynne Goldsworthy. Comprising 9 blocks and with a finished size of 44", the kit includes 22 Fat Quarters for the blocks, sashing and binding fabrics plus a 500m spool of COSMO premium quilting thread and 3 skeins of embroidery floss plus pattern, template and instructions, all presented in a smart, keepsake box. We also have a selection of pre-cuts featuring the fabrics of Centenary Collection 25th.
Watercolour artist Grace Popp has produced this wonderfully sublime collection. The primarily grey/black colours are lifted by the restrained use of (non-metallic) gold and copper highlights. Themed on leaves and garden birds with some gorgeous geometric coordinates the style is both modern and timeless. A large, 36" wide tree panel and a 24" garden birds block panel add further interest to the collection.
As well as fabric by the metre we have an 8 Fat Quarter pack of the prints, excluding the panels. Our talented staff member Colette has made these lovely cushions, below left, from the birds block panel. We also have a wall hanging kit that uses the tree panel as the focus with other coordinates for the borders. Click here to view the full collection.
We have 20 designs available by the metre and these fabrics also feature in our 20 fabric Fat Quarter pack. Other pre-cuts include 2-1/2" Jelly Roll, 5" Charm pack and 10" Layer Cake.
Journey to the stars! The Nebula Block-of-the-Month programme will allow to create this kaleidoscopic quilt centre set against a beautiful, radiating background in pastel tones. The quilt uses two rulers, the Hex N More and the Super Sidekick ruler to create 9 unique blocks, each used twice in the quilt centre.. The strip piecing method used with these rulers means there are no tricky Y-seams to deal with. Purchase of the rulers is not essential as paper templates are included within the pattern.
78 fabrics are used to complete the quilt centre. A further six fabrics are used to make the background setting blocks.
The Block-of-the-Month programme begins in February 2021 with two further instalments in March and June.
The first instalment includes the complete pattern plus fabrics for blocks 1 - 4. The March package includes fabrics for blocks 5 - 9 and then the background and binding fabrics (plus optional backing fabric) follow in June.
There are 3 size options: Large Lap (78" x 90"), Queen (97" x 96") and King (111" x 108"). Sufficient fabrics are included for the Lap and Queen (extra background fabrics will be left over if you make the Lap quilt). If you want to make the King size you will need to purchase the King Upgrade package.
The rulers used to construct the quilt are available to buy now and you will find more details on our website, including video tutorials so you can see in advance if it is something you would like to try. This 108" wide cotton sateen features Tula’s sketches from her Linework collection. A fascinating and unusual print that is sure to be a talking point for all who sleep beneath it!
The backing requirements depend on the quilt size you intend to make. As you might not decide on this until after you have completed the centre blocks this pre-order will remain available until 30th April 2021. Pre-orders for the Nebula Quilt will be despatched in June 2021 with the final Block-of-the-Month instalment.
We have added some new fabrics into the Makers for Carers page on the website. As with the other fabrics on this page they are priced £6/m with a minimum order of 1m (4 units). If you are one of the many thousands of crafters who are helping NHS staff and other carers by making personal protective equipment and accessories then we hope you will find this page useful. As well as offering discounted fabric for making scrub bags, masks, head bands etc you will find useful tools and notions to help you with the task. There are also two new DIY face mask kits from Gutermann and Prym and we have a variety of different elastics in stock including Super Soft elastic in two widths.
