REOPENING THIS THURSDAY,  JULY 9
IN HARLEM AND CROWN HEIGHTS
WITH NEW HOURS, NEW RULES AND THE VIRUS

YES. We are cautiously opening two locations this Thursday with a list of rules and protocols after talking with our team of medical advisors and our staff.

In times of Covid-19, Calabar has taken time to open a month later, after New York City deemed it to be cautiously safe, so that we could assess and reorganize our locations. We are now ready to timidly begin, yes, not boldly but timidly, so, we ask you to understand our new protocols.

1. No entry without a mask, we will not permit anyone to enter or give out masks to facilitate entry, we believe you should leave home with a mask
2. Mask required to be worn at all times inside
Staff will have masks, face shields and gloves
3. We require your name, phone and email to enter and do business with us, we believe in contact tracing so we will maintain a list of everyone who enters our business and will verify it by calling you.
4. We will permit 3 people only inside, and have the rest line up outside at 6 feet intervals.

Some business basics:

Our staff will handle all items.
We will provide email receipts only.
We will clean all transaction equipment after every sale.
Be prepared to wait patiently for all our processes, we expect everything to take a bit longer
We have empowered our staff to refuse entry, service and anyone who makes the feel unsafe because of Covid-19. It's about healthy and safety so please come prepared to care about yourself, our staff and our business.

1. BUYING FROM OUR AFRICAN ART AUCTION
#Social Justice #Change #Future AFRICAN AUCTION, JULY 13 TO JULY 31, 2020 AT CALABARGALLERY.COM

On Monday, July 13, our first online auction will open. As this has been a difficult 4 months for all especially artists, we are asking for your help by purchasing a piece of art to support African artists and in a way, supporting us as a business. We will feature about 25 pieces of work. Several of these artists are must haves and can join your art collection or be the first piece you buy. Our first African Art Auction online enables you buy unique artwork and support artists who lost income during the pandemic.

Why?
The Covid-19 virus made the world stand still and created a paradigm shift for artists globally: for some artists, it was a time of creativity, others, reflection but for most, a loss of exhibitions and unsustainable loss of art sales at home and abroad. Calabar Gallery reached out to African artists to create an auction as a way to assist artists sell work during this difficult time. The auction launches a new service offering for Calabar Gallery online.

Artists work ranging from about 12 African countries featuring 25 artists curated by Atim Annette Oton. The work speaks about social justice, change and speak about the future in theme and medium. The Auction Work ranges from $750 to $4000 and it will launch on July 13 and end July 31.

Sugarcane Magazine joins us as a media partner and we are looking for sponsors who can help expose, market and amplify our auction to other audiences. Please feel free to contact us about this auction or future ones at info@calabargallery.com
2. HOW YOU CAN HELP US: OUR GALLERY, OUR SHOP AND AUCTION

Our locations usually have places for people to come to sit and talk with us - our "hang out" protocol will no longer exist so, we thought we ask you to help us in 5 tangible ways:

1. Buy one item from our Gallery, one item from our shop and one item from our auction this month, Or buy a gift for someone. It all helps.
2. Share this newsletter every time we send it to 6 people. 6 is our lucky number.
3. Come into our spaces to shop and please send your friends to shop with us.
4. If you are able, write about us or send people who can write about us or do a story on us.
5. If you can suggest a collaboration that may help us grow, be bold and send us an email, we will respond abd reach out.

We are like most small businesses everywhere duringthis pandemic,  trying to hold on. We have taken a 33% loss in our bottom line (4 months of closure) and we need to rebuild our revenue, our brand, our customers and our staff. It is all challenging but we remain resolute. So, we need your help in any way you can.
3. JOIN OUR FARM SHARE IN HARLEM

After launching a Farm Share with Corbinhill Food Project in the midst of Covid-19, we are going ahead to launch a second one, this time in our Harlem location. Shares are weekly and focused on fresh vegetables at just $15. We got rave reviews from our Bed Stuy participants. If you are interested, please email at info@calabargallery.com.
4. JOIN OUR BUYER'S CLUB

In August, we are looking to begin a BUYER'S CLUB. We think of it as a monthly membership program that will offfer sales and pre-order opportunities. If you are interested, please email at info@calabargallery.com.
5. THE WELLNESS PIVOT

Time during this pandemic was productive because of food choices: immune boosting, health focuses and returning to exercising. As a result, we joined the development of a new show:

The Wellness Pivot
: Food, Health and Fitness Show explores mind, body, and spirit as a process of natural healthy living focused on food, exercise and health ways for a more holistic lifestyle.
