Launching AYPH's new health inequalities programme

We're very pleased to announce the appointment of our new Health Foundation Inequalities Policy Fellow, Rachael McKeown, who joins us from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.  Rachael will be leading our programme which will place young people at the centre of the policy debate around how to address health inequalities, amplifying their voices and galvanising action as well as gathering evidence and assessing interventions. 
 
COVID 19: Young People and General Practice



In July AYPH worked with the Vale of Trent Faculty and the RCGP Adolescent Health Group to present a webinar about ‘COVID-19: Young People and General Practice’. You can watch a recording of the webinar here and some post-session interviews with the speakers here. Young Peoples Health Partnership



We are delighted to share the latest edition of the Young People's Health Partnership newsletter. This edition looks at the resources and work that the Partnership has carried out during the lockdown including:  their top ten tips for youth social prescribing, a rights based survivor led guide to coping with lockdown, virtual engagement tools, the #YoungAndBlack campaign, and a remote support toolkit.
Young People's Advisory Group



Time is running out to apply to join the new AYPH Young People's Advisory Group. If you are aged 10-25 and would like to get involved in a range of projects and share your views and perspectives on young people’s health and wellbeing, you can find further information about the group and how to apply here.
Other Updates

Social Switch is developing an e-learning resource for healthcare professionals on how young and at-risk people use social media. Complete their survey and let them know what you think should be included. 

On 25 September the Paediatric Innovation, Education and Research Network will be holding a study day on "Delivering Patient Empowerment, Shared Decision Making & Transition".  The event will look at the Ready Steady Go and Hello programmes that help empower young people and adults to manage their healthcare. 

The Government has launched an £8 million Wellbeing for Education Return programme fund to improve wellbeing and mental health support in schools and colleges. The programme will include funding to recruit local experts to deliver the training programme to nominated staff in schools and colleges, and provide advice to school leaders through to March 2021.

Young people have been absolutely vital to the response to COVID-19 from volunteers to students everyone has worked to support the NHS. If you know someone under 30 who went above and beyond nominate them for a NHS Parliamentary Award.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency will be holding two workshops in September to help improve the way people can report side effects and problems with medicines and medical devices via the Yellow Card scheme. 

The Education Policy Institute have published their 'Education in England: Annual Report 2020'. The report finds that the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers has stopped closing for the first time in a decade.

NHS England and UCL are running the UK’s largest & most comprehensive household study of Covid19. The results from Virus Watch will be vital in informing government planning, Public Health & NHS responses. You can find more information or join the study here.
