“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[c] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” -Joshua 1:8
The American Heritage Dictionary states that to meditate means to think or reflect, especially in a calm and deliberate manner. However, as believers we are called to think and reflect on God’s Word. When we consistently reflect on God and his Word it becomes evident as we consecrate ourselves daily. Considering the current events, it is imperative that we use this time of solitude, to meditate on His word day and night. This will not only bring us peace in our mind, but the meditation of our hearts will also be visible in what we say and do.
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” -Psalm 19:14
In 1 Timothy 4:12-15, the Apostle Paul gives instructions to Timothy about the blessings of meditation, which ultimately cultivates a deeper relationship with God,
“Let no one [d]despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, [e]in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to [f]doctrine….15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.”
Meditation is the believer's spiritual medication.
NECESSITY
A necessity is a need that is essential, necessary, pressing or urgent (AHD). It is essential that you know your needs and you are willing to submit to God’s plan in fulfilling those needs.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:19
We often talk a lot about what we want, but don’t talk enough about what we actually need. Sometimes, we won’t even know what we’re in need of until we are in relationship with God. Once the Holy Spirit reveals these things to us, we must humble ourselves and acknowledge that we have needs. Just like salvation, the first step is confession--some needs won’t be met until after we confess them in prayer.
“For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” -Matthew 6:33
