Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrest of Eric Alton Andrews, 41, of Hyattsville, Maryland, for first and second degree murder.
On July 7, 2020, at approximately 12:20 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 8300 block of Flower Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland, for an assault in progress. Officers located an adult male lying in the grass unresponsive. Officers performed life-saving measures until fire and rescue arrived. Fire and rescue continued with life-saving measures while transporting the victim to a local hospital. The victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Through investigation, Andrews was identified as a suspect and was located, arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where he was charged. This was not a random act and there is no threat to public safety.
Next of kin has not yet been notified; the name of the victim will not be released until that has occurred.
