Happy summer to you!
This has been quite an unusual season for us all, due to the unprecedented global pandemic that has forced us to change the way we do a lot of things. Here at TVA, the health and safety of our employees as well as our visitors remains paramount to us, and we’ve taken the right steps to help protect you.
The River Forecast Center team and our teams at each of the 49 dams we operate have remained available and on the job through the entire pandemic.
We’ve been following the same guidance from the CDC that everyone has heard: wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing and even having more than half of all TVA employees work from home – this limits exposure to team members who must be physically at locations to do their work.
We always keep the river system open, but did need to temporarily close our major recreation areas until we were certain large crowds could use them safely. They’re now available for everyone’s use.
We know that some of the closures were inconvenient, but we want to ensure that the Tennessee River system, with all of its reservoirs and tributaries, continues to be a safe place to enjoy the incredible natural environment of our area.
We urge you, as always, to comply with all safety directives and do not congregate in public areas. Please enjoy TVA-managed land, trails and lakes only while practicing guidelines for social distancing.

Ocoee whitewater rafting is in business
Commercial rafting on the Ocoee River in southeast Tennessee opened on May 16, two months later than normal. Guests now will see increased cleaning protocols and social distancing guidelines enforced to help keep them safe. Tennessee State Parks are also open to guests.

The Wayback Machine
The engineers who planned Chatuge Reservoir in North Carolina recognized its recreational potential from the start. They noted that Chatuge Dam had everything desirable—setting, location, and accessibility—ranking it as unique among reservoirs of the TVA system. Above: fishing on the Georgia side, May, 1962.
