Featuring: Belle Glos

Big Pinots? Big?

Belle Glos Pinots can be a little divisive around Pinot purists, but you can't argue with their popularity and their ratings. Made by Joe Wagner (who also has his hands in Caymus, Quilt, Elouan, Red Schooner, Mer Soleil, Conundrum, and several others), these Pinots are made big and rich. If you like your Burgundian Pinots, stay away - these are Pinots for big wine lovers - full of fruit and flavor.

We just happen to have all three of Belle Glos Pinots in the store at the same time right now, and at a good price. It's a good opportunity compare the line up.

Belle Glos Las Alturas

The Spanish term ‘Las Alturas’ means ‘the heights’, a fitting name for this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA up to 1200 feet. At this elevation, the sunny but very cool climate creates a wine bearing all the hallmarks of this coastal region: robust, expressive, full bodied, and balanced by a firm acidity. Deep purple garnet color, this wine has overflowing aromas of sun-ripened cherries, sweet plums, hints of cola, and white pepper. The palate is complex and rich, packed with dark fruit flavors of blackberry and cherry.

Belle Glos Clark and Telephone

The Clark & Telephone Vineyard was established in 1972 and planted with ‘own root’ Martini clone vines. Located just 13 miles from the ocean and situated on a west-facing slope, this vineyard experiences weather patterns that pull from west to east to bring cool fog and coastal breezes inland until August when Santa Ana winds begin. Deep ruby red in color with scarlet highlights, Clark & Telephone opens with bountiful aromas of red fruits of cranberry and raspberry jam, laced with clove, cedar, and holiday baking spices. Bold and complex flavors of crushed ripe cherry, cranberry] and blueberry pie linger on the palate.

Belle Glos Dairyman

Dairyman sits in the southern alluvial plains of the Russian River Valley near the ocean, a region where cooling fog comes in through the Petaluma Gap in the morning and once again in the evening. The combination of low-vigor rootstock and alluvial soil stress the vines, while the cool, coastal climate creates a long growing season that brings about small, concentrated, and flavorful berries. Deep garnet in color pleasing aromas of sun-warmed blueberry, blackberry pie, and black cherry with hints of forest floor and cedar. There is an earthy cola tone on the palate with very effusive dark berry flavor layered with a touch of vanilla. LIMITED
