EDITION #66: Dance in Celebration of #BlackoutDay2020

Did you know that you can use these resources to support #BlackLivesMatter, <<First Name>>?!

Let the dollar circulate and populate the Black space! #BlackoutDay2020 helped to spotlight Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs and proved why buying Black is more than just a trend.

My Black Receipt tracked the receipts of 18,614 consumers who spent over $5 million with companies like Ode to Babel, Soulé Chicago, and Earthseed Provisions. It was a beautiful thing to see and support with content that highlighted actionable steps to continue this beyond 2020.

In developing stories about the economic boycott with Niki McGloster, Keith Nelson Jr., Mikeisha Dache, I thought about this newsletter and my own professional pursuits. I'm thankful for the advice from those who support me and read #KevitoSays. But I really need you all to show that love with some actual, real-world enthusiasm.

Retweet a link, click on it to get the experience, share the newsletter, and let your friends and fam know there is a safe space for all things health, culture, and music for them to enjoy. I'd like to think that you all read this and do these things already, but the numbers don't lie. I am a part of the community, too, and naturally I want everybody Black to win—I'd like for you to say the same about me and my endeavors.

Without jumping on my soapbox, let's continue to support Black-owned businesses with your dollars, your intentions, your word of mouth, and make #BlackoutDay into positive daily routine.

As always,
<<First Name>>, please follow #TeamMightyHealthy on Instagram to stay connected with our Seed&Spark campaign, and support our efforts by spread the word of our goal to bring healthcare comedy to the masses!

Now, with that said, allow me to share some health care news that you need to know...

I Ain't Know That

  1. Ohio lawmaker Nino Vitale is demanding Americans to stop getting tested for COVID-19.
  2. Guess he didn't read that the U.S. surpassed 3,000,000 coronavirus-infected cases.
  3. Black and Latinx Americans are three-times more likely to become infected and twice as likely to die from COVID-19.
  4. 87% of meatpacking plant workers are infected by the virus, showing why these places are common sites for outbreaks.
  5. The CAREN Act proposes to make discriminatory calls to police—like Amy Cooper—illegal.
  6. Vice's Trone Dowd writes about how Black therapists have worked overtime since George Floyd and Breonna Taylor's murders.
  7. Netflix's #BlackoutDay2020 plans include dropping $100 million to boost the Black community.

La Musica de Kevito

Neither Here Nor There

Chicago’s own Tobi Lou consistently gives off those dope summer vibes no matter the weather. On “Neither Here Nor There,” his penchant for K-pop-meets-hip-hop grooves are on full display on this feel good song that makes me want to find the nearest rooftop, plant my umbrella in the corner, and drink Brownstone Punch all the live-long day.

International Love Affair (Project Pablo Club Mix)

Keleketla! is a studio assemblage of musicians from four continents, featuring the late Tony Allen, and celebrates hybridized music with African voices up front. On the Project Pablo Club Mix version of "International Love Affair," Allen and co. knock out some rolling Afrobeat riddims that instantly catch your attention.

My Way (ft. Col3trane)

Jarreau Vandal is one of the funkiest producers out right now. His forthcoming EP Suburb Superhero: The Villain Within has already given us jams featuring Kojey Radical and #NewNewArtists pick Gaidaa, but "My Way," co-starring Col3trane is the first of what sounds to be like an annual summer jam in the making.

Put You On Playlist

Unprecedented times call for everyone to do their part to keep the energy positive and live. With that in mind, I wanted to create a new playlist to celebrate Black independence and support the #BlackoutDay2020 cause.

BLACK is FREEDOM is my House-and-Dance music-inspired offering that means to continue the liberation sounds started by the Black Lives Matter movement. Featuring the sounds of Hou'z Neegroz, DJ Lag, Jax Jones, Patti Labelle, and more, stream this one to put some pep in your step and a groove in your heart.
