1,000 Hens Rescued From Slaughter

Animal Place rescued 1000 hens from an egg farm in May.  The Iowa egg farm had scaled down operations due to COVID-19 and was going to euthanize 1000 hens.

Animal Place flew these birds to their sanctuary in California where they are receiving the best of care.

Read more at Sentient Media, CNN and Animal Place.org and donate to Animal Place to support their ongoing work.

Little Lamas of Nepal

The Little Lamas Project of Nepal sent our Sangha this lovely thank you card for our support. They have grown in size and in Dharma over the years with your kind help.  Learn more on their Facebook page.

Outreach Activities

Dharma Books for Prison Ministry

If you have Buddhist books that you no longer wish to keep, please consider bringing them to our Sanghas in Plano, Hurst, or Dallas (after we are able to return to in-person meetings.) They will be distributed to inmates who have requested Dharma literature.

PBJ Sandwiches for Soupmobile

We are not meeting in person due to COVID-19. We are collecting homemade masks, food pantry items, sandwich making supplies, and blessing bags supplies to donate individually to SoupMobile. See a list of items and updates at smallactsnow.com or on Facebook.

Audio Recordings

Elizabet Sterner is the person to contact if you would like links to Dropbox of recordings from retreats and lectures.

We have a new Dropbox account under the name Montaña Del Dharma, and if you have requested a link, it will come from:  montanadeldharma@gmail.com

The Buddha's Bowl / El cuenco del Buda

Although we take Refuge in the Three Jewels, the practice of the Dharma is necessarily a personal undertaking.  The Buddhas point the way, but it is we who must walk the path.

This booklet is an exploration of the Buddha's teachings regarding other sentient beings and veganism, the ethical commitment to minimize the suffering of human and non-human animals.

You can download a PDF in English or en español.

The Dharma Handbook

Kunchen Dolpopa's The Dharma Handbook, with Tashi Nyima's extensive commentary, is available in paperback, PDF, and ePub formats. All versions are offered at no cost.

Contact us for a paperback copy.

Download the ePub version here.

About Our Lineage

Nying Je Ling (Universal Compassion Buddhist Congregation) is a western branch of Great Middle Way Buddhism. It arose, as with all Buddhist communities, from the teachings, example, and blessings of Buddha Shakyamuni. These were then transmitted through a lineage of realized Buddhist Masters, including the Protector Maitreya, the Superior Nagarjuna, the Holy Brothers Asanga and Vasubandhu, the Omniscient Dolpopa, and the Noble Taranatha.

Nying Je Ling presents the Dharma in a form that is appropriate to the needs and conditions of the contemporary world. We encourage all to follow the perfect example of simplicity and purity of practice shown by the Jonang Lamas throughout history.May the sun that illumines the Mountain Dharma of Kunchen Dolpopa’s GreatMiddle Way, having risen in Tibet, now shine over the West. By the merit accrued through the pure thoughts, words, and deeds of the Jonangpas, may the teachings, example, and blessings of Buddha Shakyamuni and the Buddha from Dolpo remain and flourish for the greater good and happiness of all beings.

Universal Compassion Buddhist Congregation

We set up a free church under the name of “Universal Compassion Buddhist Congregation” (UCBC) in 2017.

Our purpose and our mission is to accept donations, which we in turn send to organizations we decide to support. All the money we receive is only used for these contributions, minus some bank charges, and wire fees. Elizabet Sterner helps with the logistics of sending wires, transferring money from our PayPal to our bank account, and all such dealings.

Members of the UCBC Council:  Elizabet Sterner, Julie Lambert, Wendy DeOre, Jack Salamone, Paul Isbell, Leticia Moreland, Abha Ahuja, Cheryla Coskie, Paloma Labastida, and Ernesto Bolega. Advisor, Tashi Nyima.

The UCBC Council exists to govern the Jonang Sanghas in Texas and Mexico and is primarily responsible for fundraising and disbursement of donations to three charitable causes: The Little Lamas in Nepal (yearly basic expenses for ten student monks), the Comunidad Dharmadatta Nuns, and Animal Place. With the guidance of Lama Tashi, we have also discussed and voted on policies and procedures concerning ethics and succession in the Sangha, and have discussed various options for future retreats and pilgrimages.

Council meetings are open to all members of the Sangha, and we invite your participation, suggestions, and questions. Please contact Wendy DeOre if you have questions or plan to attend.

The UCBC council will meet via ZOOM in mid-June. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions for discussion, please contact Cheryla, Wendy, Elizabet or any council member by June 10th. Input from sangha members is welcome.

UCBC Outreach Programs

Little Lamas in Nepal
Our annual sponsorship of 10 students is $3,600 and is sent in March.

HOORAY and MANY THANKS to all sangha members: The 10 students in the Little Lamas Project of Nepal have received our sanghas' support for 2020. They have grown in size and in Dharma over the years with your kind help.

Comunidad Dharmadatta
Our annual contribution is around $500 and is sent in August.

The Dharmadatta nuns, a unique and much needed group, bring the Dharma to many in need in Central America.

Animal Place
Our annual contribution is $300 and is sent in November.

Due California's regulations, no visitors/programs were possible this spring. Funds are limited and the 400 "residents" are still in need of food and veterinary care. Please visit animalplace.org to donate directly to them.

Cheryla Coskie is the face of these organizations for us and she brings information and displays, shares when and how, gives information about our efforts etc.

If you wish to give money for our various projects for UCBC, we accept cash, checks or donations via PayPal, and our account info is: UCBC.donate@gmail.com

UCBC is totally separate from what we give to Tashi-la in his bowl at Sangha and at retreats. Tashi-la cannot accept, or be involved in decisions of how the money is spent for UCBC, since he is a monk.

Donations to UCBC can be received by Cheryla in Dallas, Abha in Plano, and Jack in Hurst. If a written receipt is needed please contact:  cherylacoskie@aol.com
