Help needed to plan science fair projects in light of COVID-19.

We need your input! The LRSEF Educational Outreach Committee is meeting this summer to help students, teachers, and mentors plan for science fair projects with social distancing in mind. We need help with the following:
  • Identifying research projects that students can complete at home,
  • Providing resources for remote and stay-at-home research, and
  • Locating mentors to video conference with students.

If you think you can help, please read these details and complete the appropriate form.

Student Equity in STEM Fund expanded to entire LRSEF region.

This year we are expanding our Student Equity in STEM Fund (the Fund) from only seven schools to every student in the LRSEF region! The Fund provides financial support to Under-Represented Minority (URM) students and low-income students conducting science and engineering research. This fund is sponsored by a generous grant from Kentucky Science & Engineering Fair (KY-SEF) Amazon funds.

Students from under-represented minorities* or students from low-income households** are eligible for the following:

  • Student research grants of up to $100,
  • Fee-waivers to LRSEF and KY-SEF,
  • To be judged for the Amazon Special Award, a cash award given during LRSEF, and
  • Financial assistance with transportation and lodging for KY-SEF.

If you are eligible and interested in applying for these opportunities, go to the Student Equity in STEM Fund Student Sign Up.

*As defined by the Kentucky Public Postsecondary Education Policy for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Underrepresented Minority (URM) – Students who categorized themselves as 1) Hispanic or Latino, b) American Indian or Alaska Native, c) Black or African American, d) native Hawaiian or Other Pacific islander, or e) Two or more races.
**Low-income is defined as students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
