Not how we imagined...

Back in October of 2019, in our church leadership team's planning retreat, we had a goal of multiplying our single service into two services in September 2020.  At that time, we had momentum and we thought that we could capitalize on the resurgence after summer break to make our move.

Enter Covid-19.

We had no idea how this would play out, but as we pivoted to online services and family groups, several members of our team felt that this would be a 3 month season.  Well, 3 months later and Japan is reopening.  After the first live service back on July 5th, we realized that we can't maintain group gathering guidelines of 50% capacity and still allow everyone to come to church services who wants to come.  So now, a month ahead of our plan, we will start a second service!

We are praying that we can use this season wisely to build our structure for multiple services, so that as we are allowed to host more people in our space we can sustain the growth!

This was definitely not part of a plan, but we're thankful that God is using it to grow his church in Japan!

We are thankful for:

  • Seasons where God mercifully deals with us and teaches us about His purposes in us and in our lives
  • BOYS!  And a healthy Mommy and baby!
  • Community that encourages us to walk in and live out God's purposes in our family and living in Japan.
  • Faithful supporters!

We are praying for:

  • Wisdom in returning to live church services and how to multiply the service.
  • An increase in financial giving from supporters to cover increasing costs of a growing family.
  • Wisdom in living a GENEROUS life that points to Jesus as the fountain of our joy!
How can we pray for you?  Would you send us a note to let us know how you are doing?  How have you been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak?

If you have more time...

Check out this IGTV on the PAZ International account.  I explain a little bit about what we're up to these days and our experience of a large family in Tokyo.

One of our missionary families here, the Reutter's, launched a Youtube channel about their lives in Japan.  It's been a huge success this year!  Most of the views are from Japanese people, and it's generating awareness of PAZ Church and PAZ Coffee Shop.  There was one visitor last year who came to faith in Jesus after he visited!  More recently, we're been receiving requests from people who want to become missionaries in Japan!  Their channel just passed 50K subscribers and over 6 million views!  Check out Life in Japan and give them a like!  Watch close and you might see us popping in and out ;-)

Silvia and the boys are as active as ever, even with mommy's growing belly!  Next time, more about them, I promise!  We just had a weekend camping trip with our homeschooling community and it was lots of fun!  We love and embrace God's beautiful creation!  And Japan does such a good job of making it accessible to so many people!

Aizome is the traditional art of indigo dying in Japan.  We recently tried our hands at it and made some of our own shirts.  Indigo has a long history in Japan, such that the blue in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic logo is the traditional indigo blue!
