There is so much going on at SPGC.
Keep reading for 8 highlights of July.

1. MASK MANDATE

Starting Monday July 13th, the City of Kawartha Lakes is making masks or face coverings mandatory when entering indoor commercial spaces open to the public. We are making good progress at managing this pandemic at a national, provincial and local level, and this new requirement is a preventative measure to protect those around you and keep each other safe. We ask that you bring a mask with you to the golf course to use when entering into any indoor space including washrooms. We will be making some changes at the Pro Shop to move as much of our operation as possible out to the breezeway.

2. JUNIOR CAMP 2020-STYLE

We are adapting our Junior Program to the times in which we're living, which means instead of larger half-day groups, we are running semi-private lesson bundles for maximum 3 kids from the same household. Click HERE for dates, rates, and full details.

3. WELCOME ASHLEY!

Speaking of Junior Lessons, have you met our new Junior Coach Ashely Richardson? Ashley is from Fenelon Falls and has trained under Mike Gascho for several years. We are thrilled to welcome her to the SPGC team.

4. DEMO DAY

Friend of the Club Chris Roche from Cleveland Srixon will be here Thursday July 16th for demos by appointment only. We have adapted to the times and put protocols in place so you can try the latest gear in a safe and physically distanced way. Only a few spots remaining so call the Pro Shop to sign up.

5. WE HAVE SHOES!

Have you seen our stock of Asics golf shoes? Women's and Men's sizes are in stock. Mike has been playing in his new Asics and absolutely loves them. Elevate your game starting from the ground up.
These golf shoes are so comfortable; and no break-in period needed! They keep me steady through my swing, and the colour is easy to coordinate with all my golf wear!

6. PRIVATE LESSONS

We're in the swing of summer and are comfortable with our new COVID routine so Mike is now booking private and semi-private lessons. Just nab him at the Pro Shop to get in the queue for top-notch coaching from our in-house PGA of Canada Professional.

7. GOLF SAMMIES

Remember a few points back we introduced you to Ashley? Well, turns out she's not just a great golfer...she is playing double duty as our in-house Sandwich-Master and is stocking the Pro Shop daily to keep you powered up and ready to play.

8. DRIVING RANGE MARKERS

If you've been over to the range, you may have noticed some wonderful new distance markers. We know we speak for all our members and guests when we extend a huge thank you to Bob Morawczynski for the donation of these signs. His generosity is very much appreciated.

We need to talk...

It seems like some of us need a refresher on golf etiquette. We've seen an increase in comments and even complaints about less-than-stellar manners out on the course so here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • Sound travels. Please refrain from playing music or talking loudly out on the course.
  • Give space. Please respect the folks around you and adhere to physical distancing guidelines at all times.
  • Slow and stead might win the race...but if you find your pace is holding up the group behind you, kindly step aside to let the faster folks play through.
  • Repair as you go. Please do your best to repair ball marks and divots, and use your club or your foot to smooth out the sand in bunkers. You can check out some videos on how to do so HERE
Keep in mind that this course is a special place shared by a broad and diverse family of golfers, so let's respect each other's approach to the game and have a great time out there.

Congratulations on making it to the end! As a reward...here's this month's Pro Tip from our in-house PGA of Canada Class A Professional Mike Gascho:

The importance of a pre-shot routine

Try to approach the ball the same way for every shot. This may look different from player to player but find a routine that feels good and go through the same steps every time.

  • Check your grip

  • Check your stance

  • Put your sights on the pin

  • Focus on the ball

  • Take a breath

Whatever your routine might look like, doing the same thing for every shot helps with visualization and minimizes swing thought. Repetition will lock in that muscle memory and help free up your game.

Good luck!

~ Mike
