Funland brings joy for 59th season

The vintage postcard below, donated by Neal “Joe” Boyle to the Delaware Public Archives and now in the collection of the Rehoboth Beach Museum, shows the train ride and the Ferris wheel, two popular rides at Funland from days gone by. On any given day or night, the screams of delight emanating from the south end of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk have served as background noise that the busy summer season is in full swing.

But those sounds of joy have been silent so far this summer because of the COVID-19 state of emergency.

However, all that is about to change when the iconic amusement park reopens Friday, July 10, with limited hours and safety restrictions, just over two months after its normal opening date.

Restaurants are no strangers to cleanliness

By Rehoboth Foodie
For many, all this discussion of gloves, plastic shields, sanitizing liquids, etc., is a brand-new thing. “Uncharted territory,” they scream. Well, not so fast. Among the people who have been made to suffer financially and emotionally because of this virus scare are those who know the most about keeping things clean. And yes, I’m talking about properly run restaurants. And the great majority of our eateries in the Cape Region fall into that category.

Ocean Gallery’s Joe Kroart featured in new documentary

For decades, Ocean Gallery owner Joe Kroart has been a tireless, and often eccentric, promoter of the arts in Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City, Md. Now, a new documentary puts his eccentricities on full display.

Called “Joe Kroart’s World Center,” the documentary tells Kroart’s Ocean Gallery story, from how he sold paintings on the porch of an Ocean City hotel to how he built his Ocean City gallery with recycled materials from that old hotel after it was sold and set to be demolished. He talks about turning old cars into moveable works of art and then sinking one of those cars in the name of visual art.
