Bishop Richard's weekly message #17
This week Bishop Richard begins a conversation about breaking down the barriers we create and working together as a Diocese. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this subject and how we can encourage each other. Please do drop a line to our communications team. If you would like a copy of the transcript of the weekly message, this is available from our website.

As many of us rejoice in the news of our churches and cathedral re-opening, as we welcome the return of life events in churches, as we celebrate and enjoy time spent with family and friends, let's not forget those who are suffering, who are vulnerable and who are weak in our midst. Even if they might not be right on our own doorstep, financial pressures, job losses, mental ill-health, bereavement and anxiety are real and affecting people across our Diocese - As part of our mission in Hereford Diocese, we want to encourage and continue to support the spirit of generosity.  If you are looking at how we can support each other financially or if you are struggling to meet your contributions, please speak to our finance team, let's work to support one another.

Social and racial injustice and the church

A conversation with Revd Kina Robertshaw and Revd Canon Dr Adrian Chatfield
We recognise that grass roots conversations are where hearts and minds will be changed and we continue our series of "conversations with..." as part of our efforts to share a Christian perspective on how to respond to social and racial injustice.

There is also a new story on our website.  This is a real-life testimony of what its like to be Black, British and educated.  It highlights the reality of why Black Lives Matter.

If you have a story to share, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact our communications team.

Guidance and Information

Children's activities

Children’s activities being organised alongside or within a service or at other times during the week should follow principles in the general guidance from the Department for Education on Out of School Settings.

In outline, these recommend that, to reduce the risk of transmission, children and young people who attend should be kept in small, consistent groups, and of no more than fifteen children and at least one staff member. Children should be assigned to a particular class or group and should then stay in those consistent groups for future sessions and avoid mixing with other groups in your setting.

If possible, those attending should practise physical distancing in line with the government’s current guidance. As the risk of transmission is considerably lower outdoors, providers who normally run sessions indoors should consider whether they are able to do so safely outside on their premises.

Outdoor worship

The latest guidance on outdoor worship means you no longer have to seek permission and can also organise for groups larger than 30 people to meet.  Please ensure you maintain social distancing. Please ensure that you read the guidance and check that the churchyard or land
around your church is owned or managed by you (for example by the PCC) and guidance for public worship is followed.

Please see our guidance on churchyards for more information
