This week in WQPHN...

  • WQPHN has been invited to participate in the design of the National Suicide and Self-Harm Monitoring System by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. Participating in this consultation will increase responsiveness and assist PHNs with planning and targeting of prevention and intervention strategies

  • South West HHS announced the resignation of their Chief Executive Officer, Ms Linda Patat, effective 31 July 2020. WQPHN would like to acknowledge Linda’s contribution to primary health care innovation, including the WQ Health Care Homes Working Group and HealthPathways.  Linda’s prodigious energy and leadership have been a feature of her time in the South West HHS and her strong support and advocacy for the WQPHN has always been highly valued and appreciated.  

  • North and West Remote Health (NWRH) announced they will be working with the Commonwealth Department of Health to transition their 3 residential aged care services in Doomadgee, Mornington Island and Normanton to a new residential aged care provider by 31 December 2020. This will allow NWRH to focus on their allied health, mental health and NDIS core Business services.

  • The Maranoa Accord WQHSIC Executive Meeting was held this week with the WQPHN, CWHHS and NWHHS CEOs meeting to discuss key issues including COVID-19 recovery, Alcohol & other Drugs (AOD) service support, and the UQ evaluation of the Mental Health, Suicide & AOD plan, with an update on the Plan refresh.

  • Diabetes Queensland will be expanding the successful integrated Diabetes Project to Central West communities and additional services in the Lower Gulf and NW. The joint WQPHN-Diabetes Qld program supports experienced Credentialled Diabetes Educators across WQ and has expanded nursing education, with significant growth in Telehealth-care complimenting face-to-face consultations.

  • Headspace Tender officially opened on Monday this week and is already attracting strong interest through the Tender portal. A Tender Briefing for registered parties who may be interested in submitting a proposal will be convened next Tuesday with the assistance of the WQPHN Independent Probity officer.

Message sticks have played an important part in communication between Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander groups across the immense Australian landscape for thousands of years and have survived as part of Australian cultural celebrations. 

WQPHN has created a dedicated webpage which is updated regularly as information is provided.
Updates include information packs for General Practice, Commissioned Service Providers and Residential Aged Care Facilities.
