Recently, my inner artist gave birth to a happy, friendly (and green) creature. He doesn't like to be named, so let's refer to him as... Algae Man! He loves to dance, explore the forest, and meditate. He has a natural gift to understand the language of all living creatures.
Why algae, you ask? I received my inspiration from reading Slime, a book that talks about the history and modern role of algae. Algae has been on earth for over one billion years and contributes to about half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. When we look at them, we're looking past billions of years into a time when the earth was completely different than it is today.
If algae reminds me of the origin of life on earth, then what Algae Man represents is the innermost essence within all of us, our connection to Source or God. That's why he's always full of joy and happiness, because that's who we really are in our deepest core (no matter how awful any given day can be).
I first started with a quick background layer of colour:

This is how this painting looks now. To be continued!
