Blueprint Report
This month, Youth Music launched a major new piece of research ‘A Blueprint for the Future’.
The report features the voices of 1,300 young people with plans to begin careers in the music industry. It showcases how, despite the overwhelming tenacity, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit in young people, current routes for them to move from education to employment are not fit for purpose.
With barriers often intersecting and issues magnified by the coronavirus lockdown, the report warns that thousands of young people are currently being driven out of the sector they love, or forced to go it alone outside the system.
A Blueprint for the Future sets out a positive vision for change that’s centred on the power of supporting and cultivating young creatives across the music industry.

Incubator Fund
Alongside this, we also launched the new Incubator Fund, a £2 million fund to help music industry organisations to harness the skills and creativity of diverse young talent. Grants of £5,000 to £30,000 are available to businesses, collectives, and not-for-profits working in the music industries. The fund is designed to help open up access to sustainable careers in music for people aged 18-25, particularly those who are underrepresented; and to support creative employers to innovate and incubate new and diverse talent. We had coverage in NME, Music Ally, Music Week and CMU. It would be great if this tweet could be shared to spread the word further about the new fund. In other Youth Music news...
If you identify as Disabled and need further support to make an application to Youth Music, you can apply to our Access Fund. This provides funding to cover any additional access costs that might be required for you to make an application to one of Youth Music’s main grant funds.
We've partnered with Youth Music ambassadors Bicep and Charanga to launch a new electronic music competition to find some of the best electronic dance music tracks produced on VIP Studio Sessions (an online learning and music production platform). We have been able to give organisations we fund, and the young people they support, access to VIP Studio Sessions.

Chosen by the Grants & Learning team, this month's top blog from June is Soundtracks: Reflections of working on an adapted music programme during isolation. Here they discuss the challenges faced by remote working and how it has also been a valuable educational journey. As writer Rosa Sanchez-Johnson comments, "I have been able to discover more about both the artistic and logistic process of providing online resources specifically, as well as, more broadly, the layered roles of the Music Leaders that I learn from".
