International students benefit from new Alibaba network service

On July 9, Information Technology Services (ITS) launched the Alibaba Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN). This service provides lower latency connectivity for international students living in mainland China; most notably allowing students to access the U of T network and resources, such as Quercus, Collaborate Ultra and more. To date, the CEN service has more than 700 unique logins.

On July 29, you’ll notice that U of T has a revamped phonebook directory with a more modern, accurate and mobile-friendly website. Now you can easily search for staff, faculty members and division or department information using an accessible interface that’s available on tablets and phones.

Transforming processes with SAP on Azure

Recently, the ITS team avoided a costly hardware renewal with a Microsoft Azure cloud migration, teaming with Microsoft FastTrack for Azure. The University’s autumn-2019 SAP Administrative Management System migration paves the way for its SAP S/4HANA migration,
planned for late 2020.

Upcoming Connect+Learn sessions: July 29 & 30

Connect+Learn sessions provide staff with training on common technologies and applications. The next sessions are:

  • July 29, 12 p.m.: This is intended for SharePoint site owners and administrators who have questions, want to learn about a particular feature or need some assistance with content in the virtual bootcamp. 
  • July 30, 12 p.m.: Learn how to use Microsoft Bookings to manage desk space and keep track of reservations in these socially-distanced times.

Now available: Self-enrol in University MFA service

ITS' Information Security team is enhancing the cyber security protections of University-related accounts through a new multi-factor authentication (MFA) service called UTORMFA. Staff, researchers, faculty and librarians are invited to to self-enrol in UTORMFA.

Security in the news: Zoom vulnerability, fake apps

A researcher discovered a vulnerability for Windows 7 (or older) users who are running the Zoom video conferencing software on their devices. To exploit the Zoom vulnerability, an attacker simply tricks the user into opening a document file. Read more


VoIP reporting and billing: streamlined

As part of the University's transition of 12,000 faculty and staff from a Bell phone system to VoIP, U of T has now moved to an automated billing process with custom SAP Reports. This update increases efficiency and provides more transparency, including complete costs for line charges, hardware, long distance and the details of each charge.

New measure calls for non-medical masks

As of July 7, U of T implemented a temporary measure calling for non-medical masks or face coverings to be worn inside buildings that are normally publicly accessible to help limit the spread of COVID-19. This includes hallways, lobbies, elevators and other common use facilities.

Earlier this month, HR & Equity relaunched its website featuring simplified navigation, increased accessibility, streamlined content, faster load times and mobile optimization. In addition, the team launched a new University job posting and application system called SuccessFactors – Recruiting. The new recruiting module is part of the SuccessFactors Talent Management suite, which offers an enhanced digital workplace that is cost-efficient, modernized and collaborative. Read more
Summer Hours
Please be aware Summer hours begin on July 2 and end on Labour Day (Sept. 7), shortening the work day by half an hour for all administrative staff. During this period, the standard office hours are 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
