Earlier this week, we announced the launch of Bunk Books, our brand new publishing imprint affiliated with Book Bunk. We are happy to share that our flagship publication, The Havoc of Choice by Wanjiru Koinange, is now available at all branches of Text Book Centre and will soon be available in other bookstores countrywide! Many of you already know Wanjiru in her capacity as co-founder of Book Bunk; she started working on this novel in 2012 while enrolled at the University of Cape Town's Creative Writing MA programme and has been at it ever since. We are thrilled to share the incredible milestone of her debut novel with her!
                                          Congratulations Wanjiru!

From Wanjiru....
It is so hard to believe that my book is finally here!!!

The Havoc of Choice is the result of many years of questioning how we deal with collective grief and trauma, especially when this trauma is fuelled by reckless choices. It is an ode to family and an opportunity for reflection on the complicated relationship I have with my country. I am very proud of it and that I have been able to see this process to the very end, while supported and surrounded by allies that I respect and trust.

Happy reading!

About the book...

The Havoc of Choice is a story about family, politics, and journeying through a fractured country in a delicate time.  Long-held captive by her father’s shadow of corruption, Kavata has spent her life suffocated by political machinations.

When her husband decides to run in the next election, these shadows threaten to consume her home. Unable to bear this darkness, Kavata plots to escape. As her family falls apart, so too does the country. In the wake of Kenya‘s post-election turmoil, Kavata and her family must find their way back to each other across a landscape of nationwide confusion, desperation and heart-rending loss.

Koinange explores the long reach and effects of colonisation and corruption within the context of a singular household and the disparate experiences of class and clan they encapsulate.
